This is becoming just as important as having a solid coach. Listening to the press conference about fishers leadership on the teams he's played with, and how important of a factor it is, and im not going to go into the leaders on those bulls championship rosters.

I look around the league and there not many to even choose from (which contributes to the fact that only 8 different NBA teams have won championships in 30 yrs).

We miss that so bad this season, and I made a big deal about it before training camp. A coach can do but so much, without that leader or leaders. I'm not talking Ewing Lead-by-example-leadership, I'm talking about a smart, tough player who can speak to his teammates, and make sure their doing their job.

Amar'e Stoudemire wants Derek Fisher to be a disciplinarian.
Fisher, who was introduced as the Knicks coach Tuesday, has no coaching experience, so Stoudemire said the most important thing he needs to establish with his new team is discipline.
"For the young players who are not as professional as they should be, I will look for him to put his foot down and really be firm about his teaching strategy and even for veteran players who don't want to buy into it, you got to put your foot down," Stoudemire said Tuesday in Manhattan where he signed copies of his new book,

We saw this on the court all season, jump shot, after jump shot, Iso after Iso, player after player stating they have no leader and how they miss kidd and sheed. It's so painfully obvious that two veteran team always end up in the finals..

I can't think of one reasonable player in the league who we can even target.

We need some glue guys on this roster (we miss kmart more then tyson)

Jr is a 10 year vet. I thought he was talking more about Shump and maybe Tyler. Jr certainly needs to be more professional.

i dunno man, you dont think jr fits "young players who need to act more proffesional" (in amear's own words)?

either way, we're arguing semantics haha. i agree with him though, some professionalism would go a long way here.

Is going to be extremely hard to identify these leader types. At least we have leadership that is aware of that need. We also need guys that aren't afraid to drop people. Too often guys just manhandle us inside and out and nobody steps up to do anything. We need trolls and guys that will put you on your ass every time down the court. We have no fight that way. We don't have to be blowing and smacking guys like Lance Stevenson, but we need squeaky clean guys like Shane Battier who pull jerseys, grab shorts and throw elbows and knees within the course of defending their position. We need a healthy kmart who goes for the ball on the block yet takes you out and puts you on your ass with his body. We need to find a few of these guys and sprinkle them in the cracks of this roster. Let those guys infect the fabric of the locker room and let's get back to taking it to teams.

I think you are spot on. He is not talking about Shumpert let alone Jeremy freakin Tyler. Gotta be JR

Maybe Shump too cuz his slump had to do with the trade rumors and his role in the team.

Overall it's accountability. Coach can't lose the lock room over a few divas. If they don't buy in they have to sit.

Shump has never done anything off the court that inhibits lack of discipline. JR has a laundry list of bad decisions

what does that have to do with him remaining an *******?

knicks win 38-43 games in 16-17. rose MUST shoot no more than 14 shots per game, defer to kp6 + melo, and have a usage rate of less than 25%

shump, THJ, Melo, JR, tyson, felton, you can make a case for all of those guys having the lack of smarts on the court, or do stupid shhht off the court.

IMO, priggs an Amare have been the most professional players on and off the court. The buy into a system, and your never hearing about dumb sht off the court

you mean 'leader' in the Stephon Marbury/Isiah Thomas sense of the word?

Amare, Tyson and Melo should all be leaders. Same for JR... The fact they aren't is the reason for last season outcome.

Phil has got to figure that out. Addition by subtraction and then finding the right character guys to fill voids.

I really hope Timmy Jr. rises up to be that leader. So far he seems like the highest IQ guy, not to mention he expresses his emotion. There is no one on this team that seems to be the leader.
Melo is what he is, a great player but not the team leader - and I have no problem with that, again, it is what it is.

So, we need to either bring someone in, or have someone rise up.
Oddly enough, it seems like Derek Fisher was a bit of that in OKC. Nice having him as the coach as I think it will rub off.
We all know how mental the game is, or any game for that matter and having a coach who understands the game, has the players
respect, etc. is HUGE.

I really hope we can find a PG or center to be that leader...

It would probably have to be our new PG.

While guys like Chalmers/Mills/Collison may hopefully be free agent targets we have a slim shot at.

There are also some more experienced guys who might fit a leadership void.....

Other guys that could fit a bit of a Shane Battier / Derek Fisher type glue guy role that are non-PGs and unrestricted.....

AK47/Marion/D-Cunningham/Thabo

I just hope Phil and fisher find that locker room leader
