Yeah because he lost out on kerr, and he didn't get melo to commit to opting in for the final yr, which is basically strike 1,and a foul ball.
IMO, If he would have kept kerr under the radar, he probably would have been a different out come, or maybe not. One things for certain, he has said more to the fans and media in 3 months then steve mills has said in his entire knick tenure.
Sometimes doing nothing is a good thing. Kerr was on his way and from media accounts they were negotiating. Phil appeared to be gracious enough to not put his ego in the way and make it about kerr doing whats best for him and when so, he'd be all in! You don't want a guy in conflict about family issues and having second thoughts.
Same for Fisher, we don't know if this guy even wants the gig. Maybe Lakers want him and he can keep his babies n their same school! But, the lure of having Phil as mentor, and its apparent Phil wants a young guy to mentor its a pretty good job to not turn down!!
Way I see it, we don't need a coach until summer league, and even so it really don't matter as an assitant can do the job as long as those young guys are running a system condusive to the triangle. I doubt you ask a collecton of guys to just start doing something unfamiliar.
Phil got Fined, big whoo! The media coverage and exposure is worth it and than some for knicks branding.
Lets go buy a pick, get some minor trades done and in the next month or so the Melo riddle will also be solved.
Until then enjoy the finals and the Lebron watch that will ensue. Im not expecting anything other than he staying in Miami but who knows.
