do we count the ones he has won elsewhere?

I hope I'm wrong - but I don't see the path for us to become talented enough to win a championship.

I would be ecstatic if he could lay the foundation of a solid team, keeping future draft picks, adding young players that can develop and form a solid foundation.

I took a break from hating the heat because I hate the pacers more and watched the heat objectively. If wade can hold up and Lebron stays in Miami I don't know if any team can beat them in a 7 game series over tge next three years.

The facts are that there are very few players capable of winning a title and it's always been that way. Phil will set the culture on a winning track but no one can guarantee a title without having players capable of doing that. The reason Phil is trying to keep Melo is because he knows he can get more out of him and it makes the job of building a title team around him easier. If Melo goes we start the search for a franchise level player or 2 from scratch.

My brain tells me 0 but I do think Phil can push his guys and get the most out of them, at least if he's coaching. If we keep CA and Phil gets hands on with these players I could actually see us winning. Ok back to reality now..

I don't think Phil will be able to bring a championship. I'm hoping I'm wrong.

if Phil can bring his vision to the court of MSG it's possible he can win one. But it wont be with anything from this roster.

I disagree. I think some of these players have been poorly coached and haven't been given a chance to really reach their full potential. The things that Phil brings to the table are really from the school of winning culture that we haven't seen here since the last Finals team. In fact I think he's even better than having Grunfeld and Van Gundy. It's funny how they fired Grunfeld when he was the one that put together the team that went to the finals. The fighting between him and Van Gundy was effecting the team and it's what I think Phil wants to avoid. Phil believes in harmony in his team and he's got a chance to actually create that kind of environment.

Just take a look back at how things went for the Knicks in 1999:

POSTED: April 22, 1999
In a front-office shake-up curious for its timing, Ernie Grunfeld took the fall yesterday for the problems surrounding the New York Knicks as he was removed as president and general manager.

Madison Square Garden president Dave Checketts, acknowledging a rift between Grunfeld and coach Jeff Van Gundy, will take over the day-to-day operations for the rest of the season.

"The organization has not functioned well together," Checketts said. "With what we've spent on salaries and what we've done as an organization, to be a .500 club and in ninth place is unacceptable.

"The organization was not on the same page in a lot of categories. I was not going to accept any more divisions, people on different pages, people looking like they had different agendas. We have one agenda - to make the playoffs."

The shake-up comes with just eight games left in the regular season and the Knicks, with an NBA-high $63 million payroll, on a season-high four-game losing streak. At 21-21, the Knicks are ninth in the Eastern Conference and in danger of missing the playoffs for the first time in more than a decade.

"The timing of it is a little ironic," said Latrell Sprewell, who was fined $25,000 by Checketts for comments made by his agent, Robert Gist, that appeared yesterday in the New York Post. The agent ripped Van Gundy and Grunfeld and said Sprewell would demand to be traded if the Knicks planned to bring him off the bench again next season.

An aggressive GM since taking over in 1996, Grunfeld's latest moves have drawn the most heat.

He traded the team's most popular player and hardest worker, Charles Oakley, to Toronto for Marcus Camby. He also traded John Starks, Chris Mills and Terry Cummings to Golden State for Sprewell.

Sprewell and Camby have not fit in with the Knicks, and both are unhappy coming off the bench.

Grunfeld was right! With Phil trying to pick a new Coach that will be in line with his thinking and also be willing to learn from him, there's more of a chance to have a strong flow of leadership from top to bottom on this team.

Lets start talking about Championships after he assembles a team and if he can implement the winning culture we imagine
If really he does in fact have full control, right now and in our future, like when Walsh had it till Dolan wanted to WIN NOW and pay any price for it

nixluva, I agree with a lot of things you say, however, you are the supreme optimist person despite all the facts staring in front of you
For instance, you believe that AB with Woodson, was the perfect PF to play with Melo and with Woodsons system, disregarding his entire career and recent years and opting to believe he would contribute at his career 2years in Toronto instead
You could completely wipe out the negatives and just look at the positives to illustrate your POV, fully believing in it because you are an optimistic biased Knick fan

I believe AB was best utilized at C and was a horrible fit at PF, especially with Melo at SF, and Chandler at the Center
Same with Kidd, same with Pablo, same with Felton, etc... despite all the highlights you may bring up with scissors or what not

It was a horrible fit from the start but Woodson believed like you believed
Yes, AB is not a true C however, he is best utilized at that position and CA is best utilized at PF, yes we will have our weakness's with that lineup but we will also be able to play off the mismatches as well

I do believe Phil Jackson could make a difference, will he is another question, time will tell...

He will get us one chip and immediately move on. Even Jim Dummie won't have enough money to pay PJax to stay for another chip.
