Knicks President Phil Jackson told point guard Raymond Felton during exit meetings last month that he will be traded during the offseason, a league source told SNY.tv.

“Raymond has been told he will be moved this offseason,” the source said.

Of course, Jackson’s first priority is to hire a coach after Steve Kerr stunned the Knicks — and the basketball world — on Wednesday by taking the Golden State Warriors job.

Felton, who turns 30 next month, is due to make $4.36 million in 2014-15 and he has a player option for $4.54 million in 2015-16.

The Felton news should not be that surprising considering his on-court performance and off-court antics this past season.

Battling groin and hamstring injuries that caused him to miss 17 games, Felton averaged 9.7 points and 5.6 assists. His career averages are 13.1 points and 6.5 assists.

In February, one NBA executive told SNY.tv: “Felton is the worst starting point guard in the NBA. I’d take 10 college point guards and about 30 NBA backups over him right now.”

Felton was ranked No. 43 among 50 point guards, according to CBSSports.com.

In late Februrary, Felton was arraigned on two felony weapons possession charges and released on $25,000 bail.

Prosecutors said they were told Felton stored a Belgian-made FN Herstal model handgun in his home from August through February. The gun had 18 rounds of live ammunition in its magazine, which can hold about 20 rounds, prosecutors said. He was charged with criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree and criminal possession of a firearm.

The Knicks have veteran point guard Pablo Prigioni under contract for another two years but need to trade for or add a younger point guard going forward. They don’t own a first-round pick in the June 26 NBA Draft.

29 other NBA General Manager's have since called Felton to assure him -- "no you won't be traded".

This means Shump or THJr is in trouble. Cause that is the only way Fatton is getting traded.

To Phil's credit he didn't tell Felton where he would be traded to. I'm sure the Attica slashers could use him and get the Knicks out of their contract.

Obviously no one will trade for him (unless maybe he's packaged with Melo), so maybe we end up using the stretch provision on him- so for 2 years at $4mil each, what does that convert into (I've forgotten the time scale of the stretch provision!).

No. They just did not do it because it would have been a good move.

It's one of those damned if you do, damned if you don't. Lowry is a FA to give up a pick for a player you may not be able to keep makes it tough.

Yes. Especially with the mgmt change. I just really like Lowry and I am so pissed that we have bargs instead of him.

This was followed by a conference call from all 167 countries with professional league commissioners to further assure Ray they are positive he won't be traded, either.

The WNBA could not be reached for comment.

If the plan is for a cap space FA bonanza than it could be Shump, because his rookie deal expires and we either lose him for nothing or pay him. Hard to see us passing up a max player or similar to resign Shump so thats possible. If the plan is just cap out and trade the expiring guys for longer contracts with more usefull players attached to them then Felton could be a throw in with one of them.

If NBA history teaches us something, is that anybody can be traded anytime. Felton as a starting PG is horrible, but both his play and his contract aren't bad for an established team looking for a backup. What will make this harder is his off-court troubles and the fact NY openly wants to trade him.

The good news here, even if it was obvious, is that we will have a new starting PG next season.

Phil Jax has his work out for himself...
