My apologies for posting this in the Knick forum but I figure this has a better chance of everybody seeing it.

Does anybody know the details for the Full Scholarship for HS seniors in the top 10% of their class who is majoring in STEM related degrees?

Does Full Tuition mean Full Cost of Attendance or just the tuition?

I am asking because my son qualifies and has been accepted to Buffalo, Binghamton and Stony Brook but chose Worcester Polytechnic Institute instead since he is getting $37K in academic scholarship which makes the cost the same as SUNY schools.

If it is the full cost then I think he needs to rethink where he is going.

It doesn't look like it. Just tuition. Plus, he'll be required to work in a STEM related field five years after he graduates.

Award Amounts

Recipients shall receive an annual award for full-time study equal to the annual tuition charged to NYS resident students attending an undergraduate program at the State University of New York, or actual tuition charged, whichever is less. The STEM award will be reduced by the amount of any other tuition-only assistance award received.

Duration

Recipients shall be entitled to an annual award for not more than four academic years of full-time undergraduate study while matriculated in an approved program leading to a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics or five years if the program of study requires five years.

Always... always remember: Less is less. More is more. More is better and twice as much is good too. Not enough is bad, and too much is never enough except when it's just about right. - The Tick

BigDaddyG - Thanks for the info. That means he would still need to take around $11K loan per year. I think he should still go to WPI then.

I hope it helps. There are some pretty good scholarships on here. Also, you should encourage him to look into becoming a Residential Assistant (RA). I'm not sure about his school but many schools offer full grants for room & board for working in that capacity, which is clutch. He won't be able to go out for a weekend or two out of the year but that tradeoff is worth it.

On a side, congrats to you and your kid. I wish him all the best.

Thank you. He is also playing baseball there so it will be pretty hard to take on RA duties.
