I don't have an AP link but realGM is reporting that the 76ers are getting a $4M excection. Man, that sucks for the Knick trade possibilities.

That's not good for the Knicks indeed....we never got our exception off LJ. By the way, where is he right now...he doesn't show up for the Knicks games, no support for his ex team. Is he upset or something???
To be honest with you I miss him!

It's all good. They might steal LaFrentz or something but they can't get Marc Jackson.

The injury exception is worth $4,071,080. The Sixers have the injury exception until Dec. 24, 2001.

We're sorta OK now arent we? As for LJ, he should have suit up for a couple of preseason games and then retire, we would have gotten our exception then maybe.

edit We actually did get the exception for LJ, but it was only valid untill october the 1st just like LL's bu that date already passed. They NBA said that the injury took place last season so we were fawked...

I'm still bitter about the LJ exception ruling. How do you know when a person has an exception qualified injury? Every time a player goes down should the affected team make a pleading to Stern to get money? Do you wait one week to see if the injury is qualified? 2 weeks? A month? An offseason? Especially considering that LJ had every intention of coming back (or was it the money), how are the Knicks supposed to guage whether or not he can play (especially considering the time span crossed into the offseason)?

Sure, Geiger did play 4 games, but didn't his injury happen last year?

Well what did us in was that we negotiated with LJ's agent regarding retirement but only wanted to pay half or something like that. This was an indication LJ wasn't going to suit up ever again, so this was at the end of the season which the ruling stated. Not taking him with us on training camp made it only more obvious the negotiations were played hardball. While I'm definitely not happy with the result the ruling was fair. The mismanagement of Layden botched the oppertunity of combining the LL and LJ exception which could have made us a very attractive trading partner. So in short, it's not Stern but Layden / Dolans that fawked this one up. They probably didn't think it all through.

Probably because we had already received one from the Longley retirement and did nothing with it.
