on another board, people actually emailed erick dampier's website asking him to come to the knicks and he actually responded to them. here are two of the emails he sent. (i can't vouche for the authenticity but i have no reason to doubt it)

I am looking at NY. I want to get back to the East and I think NY is a good fit for my game. I want a chance to win a championship and I want to be able to play on a team that will get me involved on the offensive end of the floor as well as the defensive end.

We'll see what happens come June 15th.

Thanks for the email,
Damp

I have NY on my short list of teams. It is all up to Isiah and what direction he wants to go. I want to be back in the East and I want to play for a championship team, and, I think, NY is a good fit for my game.

We'll just see what happens June 15th.

Thanks for the email,

this might be the most legit option--the most realistic option. Dampier is a legit all star caliber candidate in the east and at the MLE, a true bargain if what he says is true. I have to think that Miami is going to be a very tempting avenue, but Isiah is defintely already started in this process with Dampier going back to last season. Im not interested in anyone other than Stephen Jackson Etan Thomas or Dampier as far as FA we can possibly get.

i hear Miami is high on pursuing Mark Blount...

i've been saying that Damp is the #1 most logical option right now for the Knicks...but will he sign for a MLE? i doubt it...it would take a sign & trade, & depending on what GS asks for, a deal may or may not make sense for the Knicks.

if they can't get Damp, i say they go after Mark Blount or Theo Ratliff...those 2 are other guys who i feel would fit PERFECTLY w/the Knicks & their style of game.

If all fails, we are going to need a shooting guard and a Power Forward/Center to complement the talents that we have in our team right now. If we deal with the Wizards, here are two names I want to throw at you all: Larry Hughes and Etan Thomas. If Etan is not obtainable, go after Brandon Haywood. If we deal with GS, Dampier and Richardson; Dallas: Walker and Josh Howard; Bulls: Chandler and JYD; Clippers: ?????????

is it possible a player will take less? these guys make a lot of money--perhaps if a player thinks he will find happiness compared to the extra dollars[which is doubtful] but weve now seen it done. i have to think that pat riley wants dampier first, blount second. I dont know if the knicks would be so interested in Blount because hes skinny and isnt far off from what Nazr is. Dampier is a bigger target with more size [although there is risk with his laziness but that is countered by the cheap cost]

Acquiring Damp is not going to be that hard. We have Kurt and maybe Williams and Penny that we can offer them. Keep in mind that Nick Van Exel doesn't wish to rejoin this group, therefor, they will need guys with handling skills to help their squad. I know that Dampier is due for a hefty pay check, but a sign and trade is not out of the question. Kurt is already signed and so is Penny. We can offer them Penny, Kurt and Williams for Damp and Richardson.

what about my idea to get Ratliff & Derek Anderson from POR? i think those 2 are more attainable than any package from the Warriors for Dampier & J. Rich, who i'm sure they wouldn't be too ready to deal anytime soon...same goes for DAL w/Josh Howard...he's not going anywhere unless it's in a package for a star player.

Hughes & Etan is an interesting combo, but what would the Knicks have to offer in return that would make sense for WAS? they don't need or want KT if they plan on developing Kwame...it might take a package w/Sweetney & Frank included to make that a doable deal, maybe w/Mutombo added in as a filler deal...the 2 hoyas returning to their old home maybe something WAS maybe interested in, but i wouldn't give up Sweetney to get Etan or Hughes myself.

Ratliff is not a bad idea, but he will not answer our problem. We will need a Center with scoring abilities, and Rat is definitely not that. He is a defensive specialist, a great shot blocker, but no post-up game. DA used to be extremely talented, but his game has suffered a lot due to injuries. We definitely don't need him. Richardson is the proto-typical SG that we need in the back court with Marburry. They are both very athletic and matching the two with Timmy Thomas we would be very potent.

In another forum, I posted an article on him that quoted him saying that he's already wealthy and he just wants a long-term deal. I think he would sign a 6 year deal starting at the MLE. It would amount to around 6 yr, $42 or $45 mil.

come on guys ! all that stuff with one mail found on the net ? Send the same questions featuring miami instead of NY and the answer will be the same. As usual, a player is using NY to get a bigger paycheck.

we have yet to see a player come in our city for less he could get somewhere else. If that happens this yr, that would mean that we'd have made a much longer way up than just a playoff serie.

We're just speculating, Raven. Maybe you're right; maybe you're wrong. It will be interesting to see what happens. I'm confident that Isiah will use the MLE, Kurt, and our expiring contracts intelligently.

a full 6 year MLE starting next year would be a maximum range of 6 years 36 mm or so, starting at a salary around 5mm. From everything I have read the cap# is dropping which will take the MLE down slightly with it.

The bottom line with dampier[if he even opts out] is that he would have to take signifcantly less $ upfront i.e he makes 17 mm over the next 2 years compared to an MLE where he would only make 10.5 in 2 years. Thats a BIG difference. All GS would have to do is add on 3 years to his current contract and that would blow away MLE offers by roughly 18MM with one less year.

I am telling you folks, we need Richardson and Dampier. Just imagine Marb, Richardson, and TT in the open court, with Damp in the low-post.

as long as we're talking about players w/the last name "Richardson" that we can't get, why not go after Quentin Richardson instead?

I think we could make Dampier work at the MLE. If you offer him the full 6 years he has good security if he were ever to get hurt, but you could make the 3rd year a PO. We wouldnt have his full Bird rights, but we could then offer him a contract starting at about $9 mill starting year 3, if he were to blow up in the East. He's a good player on both sides of the ball but BRIGGS is right when he says Dampier would be a dominating big in the East.

why do you think GS would want to trade Jason Richardson? i don't get it at all...unless it was in a trade for someone like Ray Allen, or Vince Carter, i don't see why they would want to get rid of him.

GS would laugh at us... please. Richardson is another scorer we really dont need. I would rather have Pietrus and GS knows it.

Save the expiring contracts for the deadline when they really hold a lot of value and is you can get a guy like Dampier with the MLE move Kurt to Utah for a late #1 or something to that effect.
