If Detroit is so up on this kid, why could they not use him in 3 overtimes? Rashweeds Planter was crippling him, Big Ben fouled out, and they use the big nasty at center?

I love it when dudes like Scalabrane gets run and is the hero. Dudes bozo dude is cool!

But Play Okur if you think anything of him!

Im thinking all the hype about both Okur and Sheed are smoke screens. I think they are sitting Okur to lower his value, and Upping sheeds hype to increase interest in teams that would want him but can't afford him. LIke the Knicks. Sheed wants money, may want out of detroit, and needs sign an trade.

Detroit may say how much they love him, but is worth 8-10 mil to them?

Chauncey Billups was just incredible that game. Somehow after the exchange Thorn and Brown had leading up to the game Nets were going to win....and they did. What a game!

Dude this is the playoffs. I don't think this is what is on their minds. Their doing what they think they have to to win. If they do the wrong thing, that's a different story.
This conspiracy theory I'm not buying.

He played last nite, they won. Pistons out rebounded like crazy.

Yeah its the playoffs, and if brown does not like him, they they should move him? That was my point. You go three OTs and put Corlis at center? Pistons talk up Okur like crazy.

I can't see them keeping the trio of Sheed, Darko, and Okur. Just an opinion.

There's an article in the Det news today basicly saying the only way he resigns with Det is if its for a lot of money AND if Rasheed is gone. Basicly his role has been crap since Sheed got there and he would rather go somewhere he can be featured.

This has Jazz written all over him... he's probably about as good a FA as they could get.

Okur was hell of effective last night. When he bloced that dunk at the rim I was like let's go.....I think Okur was born in the Bronx or something....maybe his fam is in the army or something. He shows alot of game sometimes. Maybe they are down on him cuz he doesn't step up all the time

Okur is turkish, and can play for the Turkish national team.

Those guys are not ment for Utah. Detroit can match. Is he worth 10 million??? Who knows. What is sheed worth? If we sign and trade for sheed, do we not help Detroit at the same time?

I know sheed is hurt, but his game is looking like Raef LaFrenzs. Blocks shots, but like to shoot from the perimeter than bang inside.

what does the fact that he's Turkish have anything to do w/his ability to fit in w/the Utah team? Hido Turkoglu is also Turkish...does he fit in well w/the San Antonio team?

Utah would have to spend big to get him. THus he becomes a fixture for the next 5 years..

Him and AK47 become your franchise players. Utah is a wee bit different market due to its unique demographics.

Ever been to Salt Lake?

i realize, Utah is full of Mormons, but i still don't get the correlation...a talented player is a talented player...unless you're talking about the guy not being a good fit because of some bad personality issues or problems w/the law, i don't think the Jazz management would really care if Okur was a Muslim, a Jew, a Christian, a Buddhist, or whatever else, as long as he could play ball.

here's an article saying Okur is interested in signing w/the Suns:

http://www.eastvalleytribune.com/index.php?sty=21774

A source close to the Pistons' Okur who asked not to be identified confirmed the player's interest in the Suns.

Okur did not want to speak publicly because the Pistons are still involved in a playoff series against New Jersey. Okur is averaging 5.2 points and 3.0 rebounds in 11.8 minutes per playoff game.

Okur, 25, is a 6-foot-11, 250-pound forward/center from Turkey.

He averaged 9.6 points and 5.9 rebounds in the regular season in 22 minutes per game. But with the arrival in Detroit of Rasheed Wallace, his playing time went down.

Last season, he averaged 6.9 points and 4.7 rebounds in 19 minutes per game.

It may be difficult for the Pistons to re-sign both Wallace and Okur.

not much to go on, but Phoenix is definitely a potential suitor for a guy like Okur, since they seem to be gathering lots of international talent.

Utah's filled with white people, you'll be hardpressed to find a black man or woman there at a game.

Okur isn't a franchise player. I wish he'd come to NY for the MLE but I don't think thats realistic. I bet he'll go to Phoenix or Utah for something like 5 years and 50 million. He's a good center, and they are hard to come by.

That's why they'd possibly value him more than other teams, becuase they can use him to sell tickets. Why do you think Utah routinely has the most white players? Because the white fans want to see some white players out there. That's why Utah, with tons of cap space, might throw $50 mil at him over several years.

oic...& what about Karl Malone? was he loved because of his skills, or did they consider him to be an honorary white guy?

I think you misunderstood me. I didn't say they don't like black players, I wrote they usually have a bunch of white players on their team to cater to their fanbase, which is 99% white.

Obviously you didn't read that correctly.

didn't mean to imply anything...sorry if you took offense...i just don't get when people bring up the race issue when it's clear that teams base their judgements first & foremost based on overall skill & talent, & then on their character, & then on other intangibles, like leadership, citizenship, etc...i think color comes way towards the end of the list...that's my opinion anyway.

also, did Utah draft DeSean Stevenson out of HS, or was he traded to the Jazz? i don't recall.

OK, thats fair.

The Jazz drafted him. I bet they pass on JR Smith b/c of how the Stevenson in Utah thing worked out.
