It still makes me queasy thinking about how close we were to having our logo embedded on those same rings. I wonder what the market value would be for them. $11 million?

There is 13.

PHil was sidlined but rostered in 1970 with back issue.

But the 73' ring would fetch a good price I would imagine. They are RARE!!!!

The others, Depends I suppose. Im not memorabilia expert but If the rings were sold as a collection that might fetch a higher price. Jordans would likley go for a higher price but that 13 ring collecton sold as a single unit I would imagine would be pretty intense.

Maybe Auerbachs collection would be rarer? I don't know if they even did rings back then.

Rumors already spreading that Dolan and Phil are in disagreement over letting EVERYONE on the coaching staff go. If herb is back the seeds are being planted for another Larry brown style revolt. Not good IMO

I agree but I think Phil was ready to fight this fight and that was part of the reason why negotiations took so long. Phil always appeared to have an adversarial relationship with Krause in Chicago and I believe he signed year to year contracts. I think Phil knew the transition to doing things his way would be difficult.

Hopefully Hopla is retained and not Herb. I think he is valuable and has little ties to Dolan and Woodson

Edit: Someone should make a thread I don't have time to find a link right now

Really? They look like they were manufactured on a bargain-basement budget. I was wondering if they were even gold-proof. I know that the history behind them would add some extra value but I would have thought they would barely be worth 6 figures, if that. I was only considering the 11 rings he had and not the 13, so you're probably right; it'd be much more than $11 million in total.

As for Auerbach's rings, I definitely could see them being worth a pretty penny as well because of their historical significance (which I think outdoes Phil's, IMHO) and the fact that he's now dead. I wonder what his family has done with them.

The COY award is a joke IMO. There seems to be no rhyme or reason when it comes to the criteria they use. It's a travesty that Jerry Sloan and Rick Adelman, two of the greatest coaches of all time, never won it and that Jeff Hornacek didn't get it this year.

Popularity contest and they were not popular (phil and jerry).

I thought that Hornacek would have won it if they made the playoffs but they did not. Still a great season for him.

so here is what phil is thinking ....

The year he won was without Jordan.

I'm pretty sure Jordan missed the '93-'94 season (the year we went to the Finals) and part of the '94-'95 season (the year they lost to the Magic).

Yes. You are right.

Can't believe that he did not win it in that year without Jordan.

The COY award is a joke IMO. There seems to be no rhyme or reason when it comes to the criteria they use. It's a travesty that Jerry Sloan, one of the greatest coaches of all time, never won it and that Jeff Hornacek didn't get it this year.

Popularity contest and they were not popular (phil and jerry).

I thought that Hornacek would have won it if they made the playoffs but they did not. Still a great season for him.

I understand but don't agree with the principle. The measure of a good coach is his ability to get his team to overachieve. Hornacek inherited a team that was one of the worst in the league, sans Bledsoe (who missed a majority of the year anyway). He turned that team, not only into a playoff contender, but one that could potentially advance in the first round. I respect Pop but he did nothing different than he has the last several years, so the decision to pick him was puzzling IMO. I would've understood if a guy like Tom Thibs got it because he not only lost Rose again but Loul Deng as well, who may very well have been their 2nd best player at that point AND made the playoffs.

Not arguing with you.

I love hornacek and I believe that most of these awards are complete BS.

Chandler winning DPOY is the perfect example.

so here is what phil is thinking ....

I wasn't trying to argue; I just wanted to elaborate on the point.

Horny did a great job, but you gotta get in the playoffs even if you sucked the year before. Steve Clifford turned Charlote to the playoffs.

Kidd gets a 4th seed in the east then he would have been considered.

SAS had the best record. I think that should be a huge criteria!
