Given Carmelo's public defense of Woodson and Phil's stated intention of keeping Melo, will Phil bring back Mike Woodson? I think this might explain why it is taking so long for Woodson's status to be confirmed. Considering the strong possibility of us sucking next year, I think it's possible that we let Mike finish out his contract, while forcing him to take on a Kurt Rambis, Steve Kerr, Jim Cleamons or Derek Fisher to be his lead assistant in helping run the triangle.

That would be brilliant in a number of ways. One, it would help to placate Melo and get him to re-sign. Two, it would ensure that we'd suck bad enough to get an excellent pick in 2015. Three, it would allow a guy like Steve Kerr or Derek Fisher to get coaching experience, while Woodson takes all the criticisms for the team's failure. Four, it delays the need for us to make any rash decisions that could hurt us in the long-term or hinder our 2015 plans (e.g. a Josh Smith trade to please Melo). Thoughts?

Was watching PTI the other day, and it was mentioned that Woodson and Phil or having a standoff because Woodson wants an assurance that he'll be back before he has a sit-down. Woodson does not see the point in having a sit-down, if Phil has already made up his mind in firing him.

Also, I think Melo supporting Woodson in public was him being a good soldier. Doubt Woodson's firing would have any affect on Melo's decision to stay or go. Why should it when Phil will be here either way? Phil's presence is way more important than Woodson's don't you think?

And, I don't like the idea of having a lame duck coach for the duration of the season. Woodson would be the odd man out all year long, surrounded by Phil's guys on the bench and upstairs knowing this is his last season. Enough of the circus like atmosphere...Fire Woodson, wipe the slate clean and lets go....

Or how about, if we're going to suck next year anyway, how about making a coach actually earn the last year of his salary for once?

That would be awfully sad. You would think Woodson would at least be able to land a college job

You never let a player pick the coach.

Yeah. Similar to the offer they made Ewing. Or Walsh taking a pay cut to stay.

I think all should be fired, from GM to Head Coach, Assistant Coaches to Development Coaches
Like every team's roster spot, each coaching spot is crucial in the development of a new system/philosophy and a change in a winning culture

Only possible coach that may be retained is their development coach for his ability to shoot in Hopla but he even is replaceable especially with sharp shooters like
Steve Kerr, Fred Hoiberg, Robert Horry that are familiar with Phil's philosophy and can bring more to to table

A Head Coach is important, but so are the assistant and development coaches
All these good coaches that we now see were once assistant coaches for very good teams with Thibs, Clifford, Rivers, and many of Poppavichs pupils
Brian Shaw was the leading assistant coach on The Pacer's, part of the reason why they have developed their own talent
Pacer's ran some triangle with Shaw there

Spoeshra was a pupil of Riley's and started as the film guy
Same thing with Vogel, he had the luxury of learning from many good coaches as well

I wouldn't be surprised if Woody is back since next year is most likely a throw away season. Then for 2015 when Phil can build his team he will take it over.

believe, and hope, he goes.
even if one was motivated by pity, or 'wait until '15', there's no point -
he's shown zero ability or desire to implement any form of team-oriented offense, which is the anti-thesis of Phil J as coach.

I would be surprised if he is back. Phil has taken a lot of shots at the coach and the staff. Even if Phil desides to rebuild I would think he would want somebody in place to start and change the mindset and system.

Agree 100% the entire coaching staff Phil puts together will play a huge role. Phil is not fit for road trips but he doesn't have to with a staff in the same page. No more hold overs
