That was the turn around. Shumpert's not a starting SG in terms of this group. JR while he struggled half the year coming back is now played very good basketball for an extended time. He's a very willing passer compared to his early days and Amare is giving his high% play every game almost shooting close to 60% and playing well.

It will be interesting stretch here for the Knicks including playing Miami and the Bulls. We play much better when TJ JR and Shump play well--its makes it a whole different team.

We have zero chance in Sactown without the miracles of JR. He was a one man wrecking ball.
so here is what phil is thinking ....

A backcourt of Smith and Shumpert would be dynamic.

Felton, JR and Shump were all shooting below 39% for much of the year. That is the biggest problem this team had. On top of that we lost Kidd who was a glue guy in terms of moving the ball and being a coach on the floor. Now with JR and the other guards playing much better it really shows how much talent this team actually had that wasn't being maximized. Some of us have argued all year that it wasn't so much the talent on the roster that was the problem for the players not playing up to their potential and a lot of poor coaching on top of that. Once again injuries have made decisions easier for Woody and he's got a good handle on his roster now. You can see he's making better decisions lately. He stopped messing around with his rotation and has settled into one that he feels good with and the players are getting more comfortable with their roles now too.

Nixluva - for months you have been trumpeting this roster is the same as last years. Now you cite Jason Kidd as an essential part? Make up your mind.

Mike Woodson suddenly grew a brain?

You can see he's making better decisions lately.

nixluva - What better decisions do you "see" Mike Woodson making? Really?

You have a periscope in the locker room or sumpthin?

Gimme a break.

“Mike has a philosophy. It’s worked for him in the past. It worked for him in Atlanta. And the big thing is you have to have players buying into it. They have to believe in it. And I think one of the big reasons why they’ve been successful in the last month and a half has been that their defense has improved.”

Defense improved and team scoring more points than opponent! ITs a great formula for winning
-Captain Obvious

1. Amare is Amare
2. JR is healthy, sane, what ever, its working
3. Felton's play is conservative
4. Tyson is tyson. Rookies to the bench and the line up has been consistent.

MElo does his thing. Its a nice run, brutal schedule. Fooking Toronto was suppose to suck!

Knicks make the playoffs with this schedule its a good finish regardless of one and done.

Im dreaming of a first round upset of Indy.... But I agree. Getting in would show alot. Winning 12 of their last 15 is impressive.

+1, although you know the opposition is loaded for bear for that one, right?

Amare is Amare. What does this mean? Amare being shades of Amare circa first half of 2010, maybe? The only Amare I've grown to know punches things and loses alot, has minutes restrictions, doesn't know if he's better than JTyler or more valuable than Kmart. He's now back to first things. Starter in the NBA. He continues and he has more to do with keeping the second team the second team than FluPersonallyTyson does.
Maybe the temporary face mask had something to do with JR's resurgence? Remember Woody and then whole pre-season JR as starter drama? Things have worked out finally. Starting has it's upside. Shump to the on-deck circle, growling and waiting. I've always liked angry dobermans. They're always angrier when caged, and then let loose.
Tyson - less preening and little bit less whining and lots more of this shot altering action. Deron was described as looking afeared in the lane.

Melo is doing more than his thing. Somebody just has to recognize this beyond fish and Phil Jackson. Contract, shmontract. The man can flat out play.

Elite.

We can all take away from the season what we want. I loved last season as I enjoyed the early start and basically playing over their heads. Loved the job Woodson did. The the oldest team ever why should most folk get up in a tizzy when the broke down? It was to be expected. If not it would have been huge! Sheed broke, Kidd broke, Camby was already broken and Priggy was a 58 year old rookie!

This year sucked but a strong finish makes for a better ending than not making the playoffs. We don't get points for a down year given the picks so better to make a showing and help Dolans cred. God forbid Denver gets Jabari (Melo clone) Parker with our pick! How cruel!!

The funny thing is when its all said and done we are on pace to do exactly what ESPN predicted 37-45 lol. I hate it but it is what it is. Hopefully get into the playoffs and have some momentum going into next season.

I think Iman Shumpert--if we keep him--needs to be a guy who comes off the bench and shows some more consistency to his game. Hes somewhat expensive to keep his cap number takes up 4+mm in 2015. I think the right move--if its there would be trade him for a later 1 in this draft--thera re players I think that fit his bill--like the player I outlined yesterday for 3mm less.
