“I thought Iman set the tone for us tonight,” Mike Woodson said.

Shumpert had handful of steals in the first half that to transition layups and dunks that helped propel the Knicks to a pivotal win over Brooklyn.

“When he plays like that, he’s tough,” Tyson Chandler said. “... He’s just so solid. He wasn’t reaching, he wasn’t gambling. He was just forcing the offensive player into tough positions."

Tough love anyone?

Im pretty sure he had a chat with Phil. We know MSG was talking to Phil during the deadline and thats why nothing happened. We know Phil likes Shump. Pretty sure Phil had a 30 second conversation with Shump that went something like:
Phil: I like your game. Your my kind of guy. Your not going anywhere. Go out, work hard, have fun and play your game.
Shump: yes sir.

Shump is playing like a man with a clear head, and I really think its that simple.

Don't be defensive

mreinman - You need to pay more attention to the word consistency.

The Knicks are the first team in NBA history to lose 9 or more games by 20...

...and win 9 games or more by 20 points.

Dee-fense.

I missed about half of the first qtr but caught the rest of the game. You look at the box score you would never know that Tyson and Shump were HUGE impact players in this game. Ok check that... 5 steals is sick. Thats like when Ewing had those 8 block games.... but you get my point.

This is how its supposed to look. Two great defenders in Chandler/Shump next to two great scorers in Stat/Melo. I honestly thought if they all stayed healthy and we had Lin (or another good PG) we would and could compete for a title.

defense is nice but his offense is uuuuhhhh TURRIBLE. No need for an inefficient two guard who can shoot and is a ghastly finisher.

I wish him well on his next team.

You had to bring up Lin at PG over Felton? Now I'm depressed again. Thanks Fish

hugs!!!! sorry amigo.

But with the other guards picking up the slack bigtime I think we can hide Ray a bit. Cant expect what we saw last night every night but between TH, Shump and JR... if 2 of the 3 have it going then I guess we can live with Prigs/Ray for a bit.

Berverly going down will really hurt them. Lin has not looked too good since.

Shump is scheduled to make $2.76 mil next year and the Knicks will still be over the apron. What do you get in return for him and what is your plan to replace him? Not worth trading him yet if it is only for a 2nd rounder or as a throw in for another trade. Dumping younger players while their value is low will not generally yield a good value in return. Would make more sense to try and increase his value with a new coach and system next year before moving him.

"Oh, [heck] yeah. He's not as offensively skilled as John Starks was, but he has that same 'I'm never gonna back down' sort of belief. Some call that coc#y, but find me a great player that doesn't have that trait."

- former Knicks coach Jeff Van Gundy when asked whether Shumpert could have played for his rough-and-tumble Knicks teams of the 1990s

“Without a doubt,” Smith said. “Especially on the defensive end, making plays, moving the ball, making shots, we definitely feel that way.”

He's shown flashes for the past few weeks- hasn't had major breakout games, but he played really well last night. I've missed watching him play the way he's capable of playing, this season- I hope he can finish the season strong.

He has been horribly inefficient since his college days. Can have that from your starting 2. I guess thats why he is no longer the starting 2.

For me, efficiency isn't the only thing you need or can bring- shumps defense and play changed the momentum of many games and got his teammates motivated and step up their defensive effort his first two seasons
