This is the stuff that just gets me nuts. Miami just signed 7 footer Justin Hamilton for about 100k for the rest of the year with an option for next year. See, that's just smart leadership right from the top. Hamilton's had a very good year in the DL -- almost a 20/10 season. He's not the most explosive or the quickest but what he does he does very well -- very good jump-shooter with legit 3-pt range, he'll run the floor, take up space inside, play reasonably good defense and rebound the ball. 7' 265....This guy will definitely be effective at the NBA level if given a chance... Picture a much better version of Michael Doleac with deeper range; maybe something close to more of a legit C version of Troy Murphy in his prime. Very nice move....
And then the Thunder just sign 6'6" SG/SF Reggie Williams to a deal. Monster scorer in college, proved he could play at the NBA level with GS a couple of years ago. Just reading somewhere where someone said they just effectively replaced James Harden with this move. To a degree that's true -- he's not Harden obviously but he has a very similar game. Lefty that can shooter and score the ball in a wide variety of ways..
Two great moves where the rich just got richer. And what do we do? Astonishingly enough, we manage to bring in a pretty good young talent/good fit with Earl Clark, a guy who looked real good in the big road win @ Boston, only to turn around and waive him 10 days later...and we keep Shannon Brown, a guy who's a terrible fit. Even if Phil did that to throw one of his former players a bone, OK np. But why waive Clark? So far we've done nothing to fill the open spot. If there was a plan to bring in a better option than Clark, OK let's see it...We're down K-mart probably for the remainder, Jeremy Tyler's looked pretty bad down the stretch here, Woodson just won't give Aldrich a legit shot, Amar'e's looked very good recently but as we all know, he can break down at any time, etc.. -- I mean Clark's a frontcourt player who can ball and could've helped here. WTF?
Hopefully this is a just a minor mistake to start off the Phil Jackson era. I remain hopeful. When this guy says things like "we're on a search for talent" and we need to go out there and "shake the trees" for some talent, that's music to my ears. Hopefully we really leave no stone unturned. There's a ton of guys out there that could help us...Just hate to see other teams out there make good moves to get themselves better and we do nothing.
