If we keep Melo, we should trade for Josh Smith. Hear me out.

As much as Josh Smith has been maligned this season, he is only one season removed from being considered an all-star caliber player. Yes, his flaws are quite apparent (terrible shot selection and piss poor range) but he offers a great deal more on the court (everything else not previously identified as a "flaw"). Considering Melo's skillset, I think that Smith would be a perfect running-mate for him, especially in the triangle. Best of all, we can probably get him on the cheap but it will come at a loss of our 2015 plans.

No effing way. Not saying he sucks mind you, but I would not jettison 2015 rebuild to roll with him and Melo. That's batshyte crazy.

Taking on Smith and all that salary? It would have to be something like Bargnani plus Felton for Smith and four first round picks!
Obviously they wouldn't do that though.

Greg Monroe is the guy to target, and is the perfect big man for the triangle.

You say you're not on drugs, but then you suggest trading for Josh Smith

I was thinking the same thing. Are you thinking about a package deal involving Josh Smith and Greg Monroe? If that happened, we'd have to send things of value in return.

I was actually thinking about shedding Bargnani's, Felton and Smith's contract in the deal. I think that would have a distinct chance of working. My thinkings is that we could do something like this:

http://espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=mchj4uk

We could effectively shed Amare's contract a year ahead of time and also be able to acquire Rodney Stuckey, who would be a MONSTER in the triangle offense (coming off the bench). From there, the gameplan would be to try and liquidate Tyson Chandler's value for an opportunity to trade for Aaron Affalo and Jameer Nelson.

reluctantly, I would give up Felton, JR, Prigs and Murray and if they balk for even a sec, I throw in Shandy, Amare, and Bargs

lol, there is no value in that package. Remember that Monroe actually has value, which would negate the suckiness of Josh Smith's contract. We'd need to give up Tim Hardaway Jr. but my thinking is that we should instead try to trade him to the Magic in a package deal for Jameer Nelson and Aaron Afflalo. That quartet of Melo, Afflalo, J-Smooth and Nelson with Rodney Stuckey coming off the bench would be pretty good.

Not so high on that team. Funny, I actually saw TKF arguing with someone a while back that Josh Smith is a good player.

I want high IQ / highly efficient players. I also see how most people even pro's have no clue how to build teams and its really an art.

Very curious to see what phil builds but I am sure that it won't be the players we would expect.

I can't see Josh Smith, Nick Young, Russel Westbrook, Cousins, Brandon Jennings, JR phucking Smith, etc ... on a pjax team.

I also don't see Melo here, I think that CAA will find a way to get him to another kingdom.

Melo is my favorite player but I think we should trade him ASAP. Given his particular skillsets, I don't see potential free agents (2015 and beyond) meshing well with his game. It started to make me wonder of guys that could fit his game and that quartet (probably with Spencer Hawes at the 5 and Marvin Williams off the bench) is what I came up with. I doubt that they would be championship contenders but then again, I never saw the 2004 Pistons as true contenders, never thought the Spurs had the talent to knock off Miami last year (came close) and definitely didn't think the 2011 Mavericks were anything close to being contenders. Considering the triangles track record of maximizing talent, I wouldn't write these guys off.

As for Josh Smith, I don't think he is a low IQ ball player, I just thinks that he is better than he is. If we corral his shot selection and get him to focus on playing in the post, we'd have an all-star on our hands.

Nah I would try to just get Monroe, Phil was an adviser for the Pistons this season. Maybe we can get one of those Gasol to Lakers type of deals.

Drummond, Monroe, Smith provide no spacing which is why they struggled this season despite the talent. We don't have much to offer other then Bargs and Shump in a S&T. They could probably get more then that from another team truthfully. I got the feeling Monroe is going to be a key piece on a contending team in a couple of yrs. He is only 23 yrs old.

Maybe we can move Tyson for a pick or 2 to a contender like Thunder. Then use those assets to package for Monroe.

I almost forgot how young Monroe is. I suspect that THJr would interest them. Maybe whatever assets we get for Tyson AND THJr might interest them. In reality though, I think I overestimate THJr and his value to the league. I seem to bring him up in every trade proposal for all-stars and quasi-all-stars alike, lol.

Listening to Phil he sounds like he wants undervalued players sitting on the bench that could work in a different system. Players like a young Aflallo, lin, Noavak, and etc. I would have said maybe Freddete but since it seems Phil had a hand in who the Knicks signed maybe he is not a Phil player.

Which players do you currently see as a young Afflalo, Lin, Novak, etc.?

And I think that Phil would definitely be interested in Fredette (aka Mr. Kerr-lite). At the same time, you don't purchase rims for a car before you actually have a car.
