Nazr, Deke and Othella
For Brian Grant, Mia #1 (19th overall), Mia #2 (#48) and 2006 #1 (lottery protected).

With Grant and Eddie Jones Mia is a medium market team stuck at right at the salary cap for the next 3 years. Its a good place for FAs and they have a core of young players in Butler, Wade and Odom. It would put them $10-$12 mill under the cap after the season, or $15 under the following year.

The Knicks simply operate under a different fiscal policy and this would allow us to totally refresh the pipeline and put some good young players in the mix.

Note: Arbitrary picks dont impress me. This is a draft day deal that gets made if there is a player at #19 this year Isiah loves. If JR Smith, Robert Swift, Kosta Perovic or some guy Isiah loves (he did draft TMac) is there then you do it. Otherwise its a scratch.

Why in the world should we trade our big man (Naser) for Grant? First of all, Naser is twice cheaper than Grant and can develop into a real Center in this league with proper training.

diderotn - i guess what fish is saying is that you make this deal b/c of the pick without losing too much for the present (nazr for grant). getting a pick is nice but i would like to keep deke and othella till the deadline for a salary dump deal.

"Why in the world should we trade our big man (Naser) for Grant?"

This is what's wrong with the youth of today.
No attention span whatsoever.

If we're getting Grant and only really losing Nazr and the salaries were the same then it's only a sideways deal. But fishmike posted that we'd get back one or more mid-first rounders in the deal.

If MIA is ok with this deal, you'd have to be a moron to not take it.
lol @ being BANNED by Martin since 11/07/10 (for asking if Mr. Earl had a point). Really, Martin? C'mon. This is the internet. I've seen much worse on this site. By Earl himself. Drop the hypocrisy.

its a nice deal for both clubs. Think long term. We get 2 #1s and a #2 and Grant is a decent player that plays hard defense every minute he's on the floor.

I'm thinking ahead here. I'm thinking these draft picks help us build a young core over the next 3 years until Houston and Shandon run out. It could also help us stockpile assets so after next year when TT and Penny are in their walk years we can do a blockbuster for a bigman.

Its just a scenario that allows us to continue to build and aquire assests without giving up anything.. just by spending.

I do believe that Grant's contract runs all through 06. That is a hefty bill for the Knicks to withstand. We already have Houston and others's contracts in our book, why would we even consider adding Grant, an undersize Center like Kurt Thomas and Sweet? We need to trade for what we need, the hell with all that other B.S.

fish, i like the picks but grants contract makes houstons look good. plus we are getting the same numbers fron nazr in less minutes than grant. maybe we could just trade zeke or thella to them for a pick or something.

nazr > grant.

"nazr > grant."

This is one I disagree with. Grant is an EXCELLENT post defender, both on help and one on one. I can tell you this, if we had Grant instead of KT to guard KMArt that Net series might have had a different feel.

But this isnt about Brian Grant, its about rebuilding a core of players over the next 3 years.

I'd like this deal. But I don't think Miami will be willing to throw in that extra '06 first. Cap room is important, but not at that cost. I'd settle for the other two picks myself. We need all the draft help we can get, because it is going to be very hard for Isiah to make trades.

We have little roster space.

I don't think Miami does this, its insane for them. Two no 1's??

I've never understood the thinking you are speaking of turtle. If Dolan wants to pay it I'm all for adding his salary. It doesn't really put the Knicks in a worse position Cap wise since Allan Houston's contract runs the same lenght of Grants and the knicks won't be cap friendly until after the 2006/2007 season anyway. I doubt that Miami would ever give up that many draft picks though.

I kind of agree with fish here, look at the nets, Kidd is 32 in his prime and playing the best basketball of his career, but he also has some young talent around him to succeed. guys like RJ, and martin, this trade could put us in the same situation, in 3 years Steph will be just 30, his game should be more rounded and with these picks we can surround him with some real talent by the time steph is in his prime years....

Miami might actually do a trade like this, and if I'm the Knicks I defeinitely do it. I really like the depth of the draft this year and with the 19th pick we would be able to steal a star with the pick. Plus Grant is better than Nazr so that helps out our frontcourt even more which we desperately need. If Miami would accept the trade then I would definitely do it if I were the Knicks.

I'd do this on Draft Day if Rafael Arujo or JR Smith is available at 19. If I can get a future C or SG at that pick, I'll do it. If they're both gone, I'd hold back.

Interesting deal, I think Miami definitely would do it. Next year they'll have only 5 guys (Wade, Butler, Jones, Odom, Grant) on the payroll and they'd be near the cap. That is with TWO rookie contracts in Butler and Wade. They must move Jones or Grant in order to keep improving.

Let's say the Knicks get Araujo (a beast of a C at 6'11" and could probably get to 300 with weights), then with the 2 2nd round picks if they could snag Chris Duhon and either Paulding or Emmett, the Knicks would be looking good:

PG: Marbury, Duhon, Norris
SG: Houston, Anderson, Paulding/Emmett
SF: TThomas, Penny
PF: KThomas, Sweetney
C: BGrant, Araujo

That team is younger, the frontline is deeper, and the Sweetney/Araujo PF/C pair would be the blue-collar, hard-working team Isiah would love.

the last thing the knicks need is another broken down 30 something year old with 3 max years that would make the knicks slower and shorter. we have two 40 picks we dont need theirs and thats WAY to high of a price for a very mediocre position @ 19.

i would rather offer GS a package of Nazr, Deke & Frank for Dampier in a sign & trade.
After 7 years & 40K+ posts, banned by martin for calling Nalod a 'moron'. Awesome.
