Yeah so boo hoo KT hurt his pinkie for 22 months and still played through the pain which totally made him unable to play defense and run the floor. His jumper was still working though.

Houston is 34 and who knows how many chances you have to play in the playoffs. Yeah his knee was hurt but you would rather let your team lose when you kinda sort of can play but just don't feel right? Well exchange the "c" on your uni for a cast already.

Timmy was poppin poopy at K-Mart and couldn't play. What the hell did he do that to himself.

Anyway the real point of this thread is my Knee....yes my knee.

Do you guys know the best way to stop swelling of the knee? My jumping knee(left) is noticably bigger than the other. No pain though.
I had water on the knee once so I know it's not that.
It's like a cronic problem. It's just the first time it's swelled to the point where I can't play basketball.
I got it wrapped in ace bandage for now, and when I play I wear a knee sleve. When I got the sleve on I'm good but once i take it off geez.

Anybody got any tips?

I had ACL replace a couple of years ago and still am working my way through it.

Warm up and stretch a long time before you do heavy action. Stretch afterwards. Ice afterwards where appropriate.

Get both sides even. If one leg's muscle is signficantly bigger than the other, that could cause problems.

I hear ya.

It's wack though cuz when you 16 you can straight up twist your ankle and just stomp in out and keep on playing.

I'm in my mid 20's now and just shooting around with some kids makes my knee swell up like a melon.

All this good weather has got me feenin to play ball and I need advice so I can be out there everyday.

Wish I had NBA trainers around be to wrap me up and ice me down after basically playing 21 full court 4 times in 2 hours. When I was in shape God knows I must have played about 10 games a day.

pish posh.....

Thanks Martin...even though you delete my posts and are a brain washed twit.

By the way Tony Parker sucks.

Just kidding

I know what you going through. I had knee problems since I was 11 years old. It was difficult playing any sport sometime it would swell like a balloon filled with water. Had it drained on a number of occasions, went to a sports Med doctor he said you have to work on the quads and get them stronger. It still happened on and off since I was 17. Then I decided that I'm real tired of this BS with the Knee and started working out seriously. I realized that weight jerking and certain exercises triggered the swelling. Then I gave up on free weights and tried Soloflex the bands on the soloflex worked for my knee. Before I knew it the knee stopped swelling and now in my late 20's and haven't had a problem since. I would like to think that the Bands had something to do with it but another theory to my leggs was that the bones ossified making the knees sturdy.

Water on the knee sucks big time. It hurts like hell to get it drained. I only did that once. I'm afraid that it's the same situation.

i think it's the long layoff in between games.....i'll play maybe 3 times in a month....compared to everyday almost when I was working part time like 4 years ago.

I used to belong to the NYSC....that helped my legs alot. I got kids man so NYSC=kids don't eat....so i can't starve the bastards.
Gotta remember to by a curl bar.

It's just the fact I don't excercise like I used to.

I'm about to go play ball today....let's see how that goes.

lol.. I see Martin is a memeber of the over 30 and surgically repaired knee club.

The only advice I would disagree with is not to stretch a cold muscle. Before you stretch your legs do some light running. Nothing hard... just job a 1/4 mile or so to get the muscles warmed up and full of blood, then stretch them.

As for the swelling will all the modern medicine ice and ibuprofin still rule. Ibuprofen is tough on the stomach and kidneys after daily prolonged use. Save it for game days and you will be fine. Ice for 30 minutes immediatly after activity.

Also dont jog. Build strength by swimming, biking and running wind sprints on a grass surface. You jog with bum knees you deserve the pain.

Good luck

Great advice.

I got a habit of playing cold. I never could get into shooting around before a game to get loose. I just want to get a game going and go from there. I hate playing 21 or Utah whatever you call it. I rather play a 2 man or 1 on one rather than watch guys fool around in a game of 21.

LJ was cripple and he was able to squeeze out a good 5 years more out of his career because of pain relief medicine. That's another thing with me too....I hate taking medicine.

Guess you gotta do what you gotta do.

Mild stretching when you have a little time helps too. Like when you wake up....touch your toes, put that leg up on the window sill and stretch that baby out. Squats and splits......sitting with your feet together like when you pray and lean forward. That stuff does te job too.

Interesting thread.....kind of a break from the norm.

Good advice from all.
