Sign Patty Mills to the 4 year mid level

I know finestrng has made many pleas for this guy in the past--his play offer the last month has been nothing less than sensational. Hes been severely under rated and lives out in the shadows of T Parker--but this guy just might be a star in his own right. Of course the Knicks do not care what anyone here says--we must find our own path and we wouldnt want someone who plays for the Spurs.

After signing melo--Id give this a number 1 priority rating after the draft. He should be our number 1 target.

RIP Crushalot😞

I actually just mentioned him on another thread either yesterday or today -- speculating what MLE we'll have at our disposal and what to do with it. If it's the full MLE ($5.15mm I believe), Patty would be a good candidate for a good portion of that if not all of it. If it's the smaller one for tax-paying teams (this is the category I think we'll fall under -- a little over $3mm), it'll be harder but you still make the attempt -- offer him the full amount, and yeah offer a 4 or even 5 year deal total along with an assurance that he'll be the starting PG no matter who else is here and guarantee starter mins. to boot. See if that's enough to lure him. It might be. He's a fine player -- he played extremely well last yr to wrap up the year and he's been great of late this season. We've gambled with the full mid-level in the past and lost royally (Jerome James, Jared Jeffries) -- this guy would be different. He'd be worth every penny...I think he's good enough to finally get a chance to run his own team. We could do a lot worse. I wonder if the full tax-paying ML would enough though..

The knicks only have the mini MLE and I would worry about him being the starting pg due to his assist numbers. However if they keep the two pg lineup then go get him if his market is 3mm or less.

They have to dump the two point guard line up. They are doing it cuz felton and priggy both suck and the want extra passers to get melo the ball. Nonsense.....everything points to a new coach. The new coach needs to have a say in getting a point guard. The point guard needs to be a connection of the coach. We need that.

I don't like it. I wouldn't give up the 2018 pick. I think the Knicks are going to suck next year and that pick is going to be this franchises salvation.

I agree with using Amare, Bargs and Chandler as expiring contract deals as we saw Granger got the Sixers Turner. So yes use them to get the PG that is needed. Sign Cole Aldridge, get Fab Melo and Whiteside to replace Chandler. Create a center by committee plan.

I don't think Melo is coming back so next year to me is all about getting the top pick in the draft. I don't want wins next year I want an full blast tank job. Get a top three pick and build around him. With Amare, Bargs and Chandler all coming off the books. You have enough space to get two quality FA to build around the top pick all starting in 2015.

I remember flipping out when the Knicks didn't sign him. I fully support signing Patty Mills. The guy can ball. Though i doubt he leaves the SAS considering PArker wants to retire sooner rather than later.

Agree. Last thing I want is Priggy or the other PG defending 6'6" 220 lb legit SGs. Enough with the gimmicks...We're beyond gimmicky with things and never seem to learn from our mistakes (double PG, iso ball, incessant switching on defense---how many times did Felton switch off on Dirk the other night--RIGHT IN FRONT OF WOODY--and no adjustments were made? etc.) coupled with an over-reliance on our star player who's getting run into the ground...This guy's gotta go -- let him finish out the year with dignity and start next year with a new voice, someone who'll bring different tactics, principles and a fresh approach to the table. Good points.

He could if the right position presented itself -- full MLE starting over $3mm with the incremental raises over the full 5 years and assurances that he's the starting PG next year. Couple that with the allure of NYC/MSG, a chance to live and experience NYC for all it's worth (something that seemed very important to Beno Udrih when he signed here), the opportunity to hopefully play with a star in Melo, etc..maybe it's enough to get him. A big factor coming up -- this is the 2nd year in a row that Patty's played well in the regular season (of late he's had some monster games against top PG competition -- Paul/Collison, Damian Lillard) yet last year, he barely got any time in the playoffs. He may have been hurt now that I think about it but still -- if Pop goes strictly with Parker and Manu and Mills doesn't get enough PT in the playoffs, that might make it easier for him to leave, ring or no ring. Maybe of they do get a ring, that'll make it even easier--nothing left to achieve there...We'll have to see. I think he's very good value for a full MLE-type deal..
