"Trying to make it to the playoffs,” he said, adding: “I’m really focusing on that with these guys, with this team. I’m trying to make that happen.”

The Answer Man rarely agrees with Mitch Lawrence, but in the case of today's so-called press interview, Raymond Felton blew a layup. He talked about the playoffs, thanked his teammates and talked about playing the Miami Heat. Unrepentant as he is towards his head coach during a timeout, Felton missed the entire reason for the gathering... and the opportunity to demonstrate that he understood the seriousness of a violation of New York gun laws.

In the middle of a media scrum, he said he didn't think his arrest would be a distraction. Most of all...

He never apologized.

Felton basically told reporters to direct all questions to his attorney. That's typical in these type of cases. I was a little disappointed by the statement, but not surprisrf .

2 things:

1)Felton, all the time, on-court and of court, is being defensive. this is why he is arguing every god damn call from the refs, even if Woody says him something, he will answer back, never shot up and listen, and in the post match interviews, he will get super defensive saying bull**** about why we lost.

2)he is dumb as *uck, and a team with a dumb PG will look like this year Knicks. last year he was surrounded with few smart players, and nothing caught on him, he just stayed dumb

PS
now add to this JR Smith

He can't apologize as that's an admission of guilt- why would he do that when he's pleading not guilty?

It depends on the content of the apology.

Harvey Araton to the rescue

Off court and on, the Knicks’ collapse has been a total team effort, from the top down. In certain ways, Dolan and Anthony have brought this dysfunction on themselves.

great NYT article, thanks for pointing out... "illusion of Anthony as a rock solid franchise".
bit of a pass on Felton, i thought, but brutally insightful about team and Melo.

Now wonder Ray likes New York. The Knicks are the only team in the league stupid enough to start him AND the Knicks are the only team that will let gun charges slide. I love the Knicks but this organization is the worst in sports

So let me get this straight..U want Felton to admit his guilt even before the trail so u and Mitch Lawerence could feel some comfort??

I can't believe some of you are actually convicting this guy with no facts, all you have is that some bitter chick ratted on her man, or better yet, made up some story to get back at her man

trust and believe I have no love for felton when it comes to basketball, but that BS gun charge seems way to fishy

“This is not a distraction to this team,” Felton said as he gave an extemporaneous statement, arms folded — more defensively than defiantly — on Wednesday afternoon at the Knicks’ training base.

- Harvey Araton

holfresh - "I would like to apologize to my teammates for creating any distraction that takes away from our primary goal of playing winning basketball."

An apology is not am admission of guilt. It is an expression of humility

no... but Felton got half of it right. He was right to deflect to his attorney and focus on basketball. But he could have 100% apologized. "I would like to say Im sorry to the team and fans if my personal stuff has caused a distraction. I would like to thank my teammates and the Knicks for sticking by me during a hard time, and my focus is to do everything I can to get the Knicks playing better and start winning some games."

I think that would have covered it but I have yet to be hired as a life coach by the Knicks. Considering I would probably just end up getting blazed with JR anyway thats probably a positive.

And how do u know he didn't apologize to his teammates..I disagree about admission of guilt, any admission of anything can be used or twisted in a court of law...We don't know what tack his lawyers will use in his defense...

No...This is his life and jail on the line...He is more than likely done in the NBA..Saving his own skin is paramount right now, not being cordial to the media and fans...

holfresh - if Felton had nothing to say, and it was handled in the locker room with his teammates, why hold any press gathering to announce you have nothing to say?

It is just too stupid for words.

There are certainly fewer reasons to gather around Felton to talk basketball.
