The Knicks are trying to sign two defensive-minded players before meeting the Miami Heat on Thursday in Miami, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

After acquiring him in a trade with the Cleveland Cavaliers on Thursday, Philadelphia released Clark, 26, and he cleared waivers to become a free agent.

The Knicks created two roster openings Monday when they agreed to buyouts with Metta World Peace and Beno Udrih.

Clark, who is 6-foot-10, averaged 5.2 points and 2.8 rebounds for the Cavaliers this season. His best pro season was 2012-13 with the Los Angeles Lakers, when he averaged 7.3 points and 5.5 rebounds per game, earning him a two-year, $9 million deal with Cleveland during the summer.

Clark was the 14th overall pick by the Phoenix Suns in the 2009 NBA draft .

I personally feel 6'9" Devin Ebanks is younger with more upside; Donte Greene and Craig Brackins are also similar players that have played abroad recently that might be available and a little better but whatever...not bad. If it were up to me I'd rather see Ebanks and Seth Curry (just feel there's more PG potential and maybe a little better off-the-dribble game with Curry over Fredette) but if it's Earl Clark and Fredette that wouldn't be terrible.

I think this is the right direction though for the Knicks not Dahntay Jones. Also, the Knicks seem to want to bring a 3/4 type to play alongside Melo which would be smart. I think Grunwald saw Leslie and Metta as those players.

Yeah definitely bro. Dahntay Jones feels so 'win now' to me. Makes no sense. This season's over. There is no more 'win now' this year. That window slammed shut several games back...I'd call the dogs off going in that direction and lean more toward youth development for the remainder...Let's see if we can uncover a young jewel or 2 that we can lock up on the cheap over the next several years -- that would be my motivation to close out this season)...I mean even if we miraculously sneak into the playoffs, you know we're getting bounced right out in the 1st round--so what's the point in taking on another vet at this point?? I'd rather Devin Ebanks over Clark, just like his game better as a hybrid forward over Clark's (good call that that's what Grunny might have been thinking with CJ and MWP, two hybrid forwards that might work alongside Melo--I agree)--just feel there's better offensive versatility/potential and overall upside with Ebanks but Clark wouldn't be bad. He can ball, he's long and athletic and he's still fairly young. Liked him at Lousiville..

Mike Woodson and Steve Mills have both spoken with free agent Earl Clark, according to sources. Strong possibility he signs with Knicks

Yup Yup. I wouldn't mind Ben Gordon also. Maybe if/when they rid themselves of Fatton's contract.

If the Knicks are going to look at journeymen forwards, they should probably sign Ike. We know Like can do 2 things well, score and rebound. Earl has shown little during his time in the league and Dahntay Jones is old.

im a big fan of clark. hes young and tall...im happy with the signing. forget dahntay jones...hes old and has no future here
Knicks should be improved: win about 40 games and maybe sneak into the playoffs. Melo, Rose and even Noah will have some nice moments however this team should be about PORZINGUS. the sooner they make him the primary player, the better

At first I thought you all were talking about this guy.

Sad life. He apparently never played a game sober.

I remember IT was going to sign him to the Knicks (of course), but he didn't show up or something.
