Melo is cured. Woody is safe. I wonder if Woodson keeping his job has more to do with Melo protecting his reputation entering FA then basketball. Thoughts...

So now you want him to voice his opinion in public about coaching? In the best case scenario it would be like Chris Paul an Del Negro. The Clippers showed Paul that they were committed to winning and made moves in the offseason. You could say with Griffin and Jordan they had a better core but those two took big steps this year with coaching(more so Jordan, imo).

No, not publicly, but Melo has influence with the front office. If he didn't support Woodson, I think he'd be on line E at the unemployment office. The way Woody has handled this season has been questionable and the results back that up. So what has Woodson done to have Melo's support. If winning is everything, has Woody put this team in the best position to do that?

My question is simply, does Woodson have Melo's support becuase he gives this team the best chance to win....or is Melo supporting him to protect against any negative coach killing presss as he gets ready to head into the the media spotlight this offseason when he opts out?

Who know's? So why speculate. It's always a slippery slope that should not be left up to the players. Even if they fired Woodson it was unlikely they sign a good coach mid year so why add another talking point?

it would be good to end the season on a positive by winning some games. This coach is winning nothing. Bring in an interim coach, let him make some needed adjustments and win some games.

I disagree. There is no one on the staff to put in place as interim. I am hoping that a new gm is hired and that he chooses a coach in the offseason. Would love for it to be an up and comer getting his chance but that probably won't happen.

Also, Woodson was handed a whole load of crap to deal with this year. His assistants didn't get extensions, his gm got fired, control of his roster was taken him from etc. Not sure how anyone can succeed in that situation. Hard to hold guys accountable when the owner/gm tells you who makes the team, who can play when and how many minutes, keep a spot for chris when you desperately need another healthy big because your team is so frail etc. No way Woodson makes things work this year. I just didn't think it would be this bad.

This is no different than what has happened with other Knicks coaches, just maybe a bit more embarrassing. MDA had to deal with strange management decisions and a lack of support as well. We've seen other coaches also have to deal with Dolan's nonsense. It all comes back to Dolan. He's the one common denominator. No coach can really succeed with Dolan's interference and poor decision making. Stern tried to help by forcing Dolan to hire a real BB man, but eventually Dolan went back to his old ways and there's nothing we can do if he thinks he is the smartest BB man in the room.
