Source: Knicks' Iman Shumpert has MCL sprain
Yahoo Sports By Adrian Wojnarowski 47 minutes ago
Within hours of trade talks collapsing with the Los Angeles Clippers on a deal, New York Knicks guard Iman Shumpert suffered a sprained MCL in his left knee, a league source told Yahoo Sports.

Shumpert left the Knicks' 98-91 victory against New Orleans with the knee injury, and will return to New York to have an MRI on Thursday. There's concern about possible meniscus damage that will be addressed in the examination, a source told Yahoo Sports.

Shumpert suffered a torn ACL and lateral meniscus in his left knee in April of 2012 and missed nine months before returning to the Knicks.

The current injury ends several months of trade talks centered on Shumpert, punctuated with discussions that gathered momentum over the past several days with the Clippers.

After several rounds of negotiations, the Clippers and Knicks abandoned discussions on a proposed trade centered around Shumpert earlier on Wednesday, league sources said. The Knicks had interest in bringing back Clippers point guard Darren Collison and rookie Reggie Bullock as part of a package, but wanted Los Angeles to accept Raymond Felton in the deal, sources said. The Clippers resisted the Felton element of the deal, and were reluctant to part with Bullock or any draft picks in talks, sources said. Clippers general manager and coach Doc Rivers has been determined to upgrade athleticism on the wings and sees Shumpert as a player who can complement J.J. Redick and Jared Dudley. Redick is expected to miss a month with a back injury.

The Knicks are still interested in pursuing a point guard before the Thursday trade deadline, but are running out of possibilities. New York has tried to stay aggressive in pursuit of Toronto's Kyle Lowry, but the Raptors have turned down recent offers around the NBA that have included packages of a starting point guard and a future first-round pick.

Shumpert, 23, has struggled this season, averaging seven points on only 38 percent shooting.

That's what the Knicks get for trading assets and picks like they are going out of style

I don't think we will ever get from under those mistakes until 2019 or 2020. The only thing that will speed that process up is if get lucky in free agency.

is fine... keep him. Such a sell low... better to get him healthy. He will play better under the next coach

And the fact that without him our perimeter defense goes from terrible to atrocious

Lets face it the Knick weren't going anywhere this year anyway and most likely not next year either. Even if we did sneak into the playoffs we would be the 7th or 8th seed which would have been a 1st round exit. Keep shumpert and try to get more value down the road

I would've done this trade for Collison but you guys are right -- it would be a sell low. I think this kid's capable of much more and I agree he could be playing better under another coach. We'll see.

I still think he's good. We have no team concept here. We have a coach who like in Atl his plan is to ride one guy till he breaks. Another 40+ minutes for MElo last night.

We don't have the talent either. We have no pg, no defensive players, Center has regressed, our best player is a scorer but thats it. The one bright spot has been our rookie. I don't like woodson but cant blame him for everything

Fire Woodson and his iso ball and put a real pg next to Shump and he will play inspired ball again. He is as frustrated with this as we are

Most of the game highlights are focused on our atrocious interior defense, so how would you tell?

Oh well, one less yoot we can complain about giving away.

shumpert has to stay on the court, which he can't do. 2 major knee injuries and this latest one, which looks bad itself and he's only 23 years old.

I think this is a blessing, shump needs a new coach and collision is a little bit of a upgrade over Felton but is not the type of player to bring you deep into the playoffs
