NBA Rumors: Bulls Talking Carmelo Anthony Trade with Knicks

By Evan Massey | Published February 10, 2014

According to sources inside the Chicago Bulls organization, the team has been in discussions with the New York Knicks over the last couple of weeks regarding a trade for Carmelo Anthony. The two sides have been rumored to have interest, but according to this report the talks have already been going on for the past couple of weeks. It will be very interesting to see if the Bulls are able to work out a trade with the Knicks before the trade deadline passes.

The report states that the Bulls would be giving up Carlos Boozer, Kirk Hinrich, Tony Snell, Jimmy Butler, and likely a first round pick as well. In return, Chicago would receive Carmelo Anthony, Raymond Felton, and Iman Shumpert. Obviously this is a huge trade that would change the future of both teams dramatically. Chicago is still able to compete with some of the good teams in the NBA despite missing Derrick Rose, and adding Carmelo Anthony might very well be the move that keeps their season alive.

New York would be receiving a good package in return for Melo with this trade. Jimmy Butler has shown flashes of becoming a special player, and rookie Tony Snell has also proven to be a very solid wing player. Hinrich would be a solid veteran piece to add to the roster, and Boozer would be a large expiring contract next offseason. The Knicks would be getting a very similar type of package to the deal that they gave up in the first place to Denver in the original Carmelo Anthony trade.

Once again, the two sides are discussing a deal that they are hoping that they can figure out before the trade deadline. There are many complications that the two sides are trying to work through, including what the Knicks want exactly in return. In addition to the players involved, the two sides will have to agree on the picks that will be involved as well.

Overall, this trade is something that is being discussed, but has not become imminent as of yet. These talks do have traction according to the source, and the two sides are in daily conversations about the deal. Expect more information to come out over the next few weeks, but this is certainly something to keep an eye on.

NBA Trade Rumors: Would Sixers deal Evan Turner to Pistons?

The NBA trade deadline is just 10 days away, and speculation is growing as to what kind of deal the Sixers will make.

Although it is not a report, and really is much more of an opinion, Basketball Insiders' Jabari Davis thinks the Detroit Pistons could make a run at both Cleveland Cavaliers forward Luol Deng and Philadelphia 76ers guard Evan Turner.

Why?

Hypothetically, both Deng and Turner are able to produce the type of steady offense without a great deal of plays drawn and run specifically for them that would be great for Detroit. They also provide the team-oriented things that encourage and influence winning basketball yet aren’t always as detectable to the casual observer or in a quick glance at the box score.

Davis acknowledges that the Pistons don't have what it takes to land Turner, and he is probably right. The Pistons do not have a 2014 draft pick, and cannot trade their 2015 pick because they would mean they wouldn't have a first round pick two years in a row -- a no no in the NBA. A three team deal is possible, which could land the Sixers a pick, but how likely that is isn't known.

They could offer Charlie Villanueva, who has an expiring contract, but the Sixers would likely keep Turner at this point rather than just give him away.

What is interesting is that Davis says a reason the Pistons could go after Turner is he provides "team-oriented" things and "encourages and influences winning basketball." Turner is a popular guy in the Sixers' locker room, but saying he influences winning basketball might be a stretch.

Per Basketball Reference, Turner has the 10th lowest win share percentage on the Sixers. Win share, which is an advanced basketball stat, is the "estimate of the number of wins contributed by a player per 48 mins." Turner has a win share of .027, which is considerably lower than the 0.1 that is the league average, and far behind Spencer Hawes (.088) and Thaddeus Young (.086).

So while the Pistons might end up making a run at Turner, if they are doing it to fuel a winning environment, they might be barking up the wrong tree.

I don't think Denver does it but they do need a center with McGee out and Gallinari is out past the beginning of next season.

I'd pass. We'd be screwed in that deal. Faried, as I've said before, is little more than a young Reggie Evans. Would you really move your best asset outside of Melo and pass up the opportunity to be a major player in free agency for a guy like that (I'm focusing on Faried because Miller will be a free agent and we could sign him in 2014 if we wanted and Gallo will again miss time next season)?

Done for this season but expected to be back on opening day next season. I wouldn't want the player-version of James Dolan though e.g. plush with all the tools to be great at what you do but dumber than a doorknob.

Knicks want Lowry will give up picks this time..... according to DN

Here this is--if we wanted to do that we shouldve executed the trade at the time--I highly doubt Raptors ownership will do this they can win the division. Knicks sound desperate today

Sounds like the Knicks are going to do something. Hopefully the young guns, tim and Jeremy, aren't touched.

sounds like melo told them to get something done.

i can't see us moving lowry right now but if we do, well i would expect ujiri to bend over dolan on this one.

this is a very dangerous time for the knicks. they really need melo to step up here and say he wants to stay or they could make some really bad transactions that will f this up for another 5 years.

Shump's stock is so low right now, I don't see a Faried trade unless someone else is thrown in. Didn't like the idea a few months ago but I don't see him playing better ball on a regular basis until he's shipped out and under the direction of a better coaching staff.

Faried's stock is down a bit too.

While we need back court help more I see Faried as being a longer term piece and more dependable then Kmart. Its time for Kmart to go, he plays well with energy then he breaks.

I think Faried would be more desirable to Boston than Shump in any deal for Rondo.

Watching Rondo shoot jumpers in a knick uni is going to make me ill.

Well keep Faried away because I don't want Rondo. Faried is a guy you get and hope he has a good month the next year and then sell.

I figured the faithful would love Faried, he is a modern day version of "Oak" but quicker.

I doubt he bytch slaps dudes that owe him money on the court (Tyrone Hill) during warmups but his energy type game would be appreciated in the mecca.

He is indeed out for the season, but I read Denver were unhappy with his attitude and effort regarding the rehab. He is terrible- every time I watched him play he seemed to have a positive impact for the opposing team! I live in fear of reading we've traded Bargs for him!

He is terrible at defense, and is a terrible fit for this team- we have too many PFs as it is, plus he can only really excel in a fast tempo team and we're one of the slowest. Can you imagine the offensive horrors of a front court of Tyson and Faried?!
