Thought it be a fun thead to discuss bad franchises and why......

Cavs are up there but they did make the finals with Lebron and were pretty good a few times. Had Mark Price and Daughtery.

Depressing teams still in existance (no WHA, USFL, WFL, ABA, Soccer, or pro Lacrosse league mentioned)
In no special order.....

1. Titans for some reason bug me out.

2. Nashville has a hockey team, so does Columbus Ohio!

3. The Mets. Always reeked of having presence. 69' series miricle was cool, 73' series was good, 86' team was awesome but so depressed they needed drugs. Shea Stadium was home, you needed drugs. They traded Nolan Ryan for Jim Fregosi. They Traded Tom Seaver!! Who trades Tom Seaver? They had Ellis Valentine, they had BObby Bonilla, they had George Foster. My god, they are baseballs Knicks!

4. Jets. See number 3. Then as sublet tennent for Giants its pretty depressing. The Rex Ryan thing was cute when he was fat.

5. Knicks. Lets be objective and count the moments. Im a fan. They depress me. See my Spurs take.

6. I usually leave out expansion teams so I'll leave out the Bobcats, but the Jacksonville Jaguars are pretty awful. The Panthers been to the superbowl so it can be done.

7. Oakland Raiders. Used to be awesome but play in a dump of a stadium and while the whole pirate thing was cool for while, they seem to just age badly as a franchise. Fans dress up like middle aged "Kiss Army" groupies. Look up Kiss army on google and then google Raiders costumes. sorry ass franchise moved FROM LA BACK TO OAKLAND. Dumb.

8. Arizona Cardinals. No such species in the desert. Expansion name taint. They should not be there under that name. Wanna do the bird thig that bad, name them the "FireBirds"!!! Guys like that! Desserts have droughts. People should not live their nor have football teams there. They sucked in St Louis. I'll add Phoenix Coyotes even though they are an expansion team. They just dropped "Phoenix" and added instead "arizona". Thats always a bad sign for a franchise on the ropes. ONly ones that care are transplanted Canadians. Nobody outside PHX cares. Its like the reverse of when The Angels dropped being "California Angels", then said a big Phuch you to Anahiem, and now are "Los Angeles Angels". Sucked the Refurb money from Anaheim and they dropped the name. Everyone knows "Golden State" just means "we are not admitting to say we play in Oakland" when they moved from the Cow Palace. Yeah, thats what it was called. They will be moving again back to San Fran. Wonder what they'll call themselves?

9. LA Clippers: They are on the rise. Anyone seen a picture of Billy Crystal lately? It scares me. Blake Griffith gives me the creeps. He is mutant sort of quiet jumping freek that has no facial expression. What creeps me out is I don't see why he is appealing as a spokesman? They going to screw it up some how even with Doc. It depresses me.

10. Buffalo Bills. One day they will leave and Buffalo won't be cool anymore. Canadians are nice people and we should give them Buffalo as a present. The team and the city. They have a dome in Toronto. Its where you should have domes.

11. Toronto Maple Leafs. Its a great city, highest ticket prices and have not been to the finals since 1967. Before then there were only 8 teams in the NHL. Or was it 6? Raptors are expansion team, they are exempt.

12. Chicago White sox finally won a series with Ozzie but nobody cares. Cubs still are Chicago. Phuch em both.

13. St Louis Rams: Its been almost 20 years and still can't get used to it. They will break their lease and move back to L.A. or force the City of St Louis to spend a god forsaken amount to renovate their dome. Its crazy lease that says that after 2016 they have to be a top 8 facility or they can leave anytime. If your a fan, they will leave. You have the Baseball Cardinals, be happy!

14: Long Island/Jersey Nets/ NY Islanders: Wow, what great franshise they were those first years! Amazing they were stuck in some weird time warp where they sucked for 20 years and their arena never improved.

15. GreenBay Packers: the Community owned team thing was cute. Now its like its the only thing they can cling on to cuz if it was not they'd have moved a long time ago. Los Angeles should buy the city, then move the team to LA, and move all its prisons to Green Bay. Just seems like they try to hard to love their team. Kind of like Seattle Seahawk fans. Just trying to hard. Not cool. Players go there for the money. Its a good reason if your a player.

16. MIlwaukee Bucks. They need a new Arena, they suck, no body cares. Just move it to Seattle. Nobody will care.

17. Milwaukee Brewers: IM seeing a pattern here.

18. Anaheim Ducks: change the name. It was cute for few years. Disney owned the team. Now they don't.

Should be but Not on my list:

1. Kansas City Royals: Smart to build a baseball only stadium in 1973! Smart because you'd never get a team otherwise. ITs the reason it not on the list: You have baseball!!!! A hard salary cap will get you a series one day. you will win one before the knicks.

2. Pittsburg Pirates. Roberto Clemente. A cool Bridge. A cool Park to play in on a river. Its getting better.

3. Clevland Cavs: Lebron might come back. Until that boat sails you have hope. Lebron leaving was swift and it was over quick. Kyrie might leave.

4. Memphis Grizzlies. Transplanted teams are tainted and they used to be on my depressing list but trading Pau for Marc seemed like such a bad idea and so many called it a scam. It was the very thing that gave them life. They make all those stern conspiracy nuts look bad. They should change their name to the "Express". They wanted that but that would be a corperate tie in to "FedEx" and thats a no-no. Soon it won't be.

5. OKC Thunder: No taint on their transplanted history. They built thru 10 years of tanking. It gives me hope. Nasty part of the country.

6. San Antonio Spurs: They not just got luckey with Duncan but did everything the knicks should have done with Ewing. That depresses me when I think of knicks. Used to piss me off. Now I admire them! Respect.

7. Brooklyn Nets: A starphuch with teeth! Rusisan Oligopoloy coolness, great arena, got Isles moving in and Maybe Roy Boe resurrects! The sheer fact it bugs out Dolan to no end is good enough for me!

8. Boston Red sox: Them winning used to depress me. Dispised them. Now they just a bunch of rednecks with beards who I don't care about. Can't say I like them, but can't find reason to dislike them. They did not "beat" us to advance like they once did. That was depressing to lose 4 straight. There salary dump year before trade with Dodger I thought would take years to see benefits. I was wrong, real wrong!

9. Lakers. Used to hate the Lakers and the envy used to depress me. Now I see MDA coaching, Dwight leaving, Starphuch Nash and a host of injuries and I kind of feel like its a mirror image of Knicks. It does not depress me anymore. Maybe they go 40 years without and see how it feels.

10. Cowboys: I used to hate them, now I enjoy their failure. Giants success the last 20 years has had a lot to do with it. Things change and they'll be back with Redskins one day. Until then, Phuchem!

Cavs are that reminder why building thru the draft isn't always the answer (as well as many other teams.) Cavs draft the best player in the league and can't build a championship team around him. They lose him and draft another franchise player, and can't even put together a reasonable core alongside him with all of the high picks. They have missed badly on nearly every other pick besides Irving in recent years. Odds are they lose him before they ever become a winning team.

You can build through the draft.

Thunder and the Spurs are the perfect example. As are the pacers. You use your assets and trade when you have too.

The cavs made bad selections. You draft the right player for your team, not tweeners and guys that don't have a position.

The only thing the cavs are an example of are bad scouts. Not one person outside of their organization thought Bennet was a 1 pick.

Anthony Bennet himself was shocked, He's not that good.
The spurs should be the furthest team from this list..... They build thru the draft and have a disciplined system that makes everyone better. They believe in this process called DE-VEL-OP-MENT
kawhi Leonard, late pick absolute stud
Danny green- cut several times, excellent player
manu ginobili- late pick
Dejuan Blair- late pick, solid big

Only one of those 3 teams has won a championship. Also, it was just reported that 34% of lottery picks between 2004 and 2008 are already out of the league. It can be done, just takes a lot of skill and even more luck.

Stupid posts like these prove people haven't learnt anything from the past 20 years? Chicago is screwed with injured D Rose. We would have been screwed with injured Gallo. You don't just throw the Thunder and the Spurs out there and act as if it is commonplace. You get lucky drafting a franchise talent like Duncan then you can draft to build around him. Durant has not won a championship yet and Lebron left Cleveland and Bosh left Toronto to win championships. Pacers have to get past Miami first. Look at KG. Great talent had to get traded to Boston to even sniff a finals. It's so lame with people keep throwing Duncan out trying to prove you can build a championship team through the draft.

28 entries.

I don't know if this is an onset of RonRon disease, or if the Nalod's Great American Novel/Django Unchained/At Least It Aint Porn Part Deux has just come to some sort of screaching halt.

The fact that your post even mentions the Titans, the BlueJackets and the Ducks should be reason enough for UK banishment for life. Which reminds me of another fun thread idea....

As oppose to starphucking and keep sucking until Dolan passes away?

Ummmm, the playoffs and the 2nd round say hello. Meanwhile, at the bottom of the league they're saying: by golly, we gonna draft MJ someday! I hope those 5000 people who were showing up to our games in Milwaukee are still alive when we do!

People love sitting on the fence and saying everyone's plan sucks. At least we win 54 games with Melo. When was the last time a Dolan owned team that was built through the draft did that? Teams that trade for talent, franchise and supporting talent, win more championships.

some examples come to mind,

manchester untied this year is a big money team that is mid table this year, but they have a situation where long time manager sir alex retired so they are transitioning,

then manchester city, maybe the biggest money team in the world, has had trouble in the Champions League (champions league is europe-wide tournament of best clubs from each country) where they haven't advanced out of the group stage until this season,

tottenham this year could be another example where, while they're not a traditional Big Cash team, they spent a lot of money on a lot of players last summer and so far they are not in the top 4 of the EPL (top 4 spots get Champions League football in the next season, so top 4 is the ultimate goal of all EPL clubs),

Inherently it appears most superstars are drafted.

KG was obtained because boston did tank, did accumulate picks and yoots used for their star phuch trade.

They had paul pierce already. Ray Allen was not a superdooper star. Big part of things but they had those three at or near their prime.

Jordan and Pippen in their prime. Lakers showtime, Kareem stayed prime long enough to help Magic reach his, and worthy resides in the HOF. Celtics Drafted BIrd, traded to get Mchale pick an Parish....All in their prime.

Knicks problem is getting two more side kicks in their prime. They failed with to do this with ewing.

simple formula really. Draft, trades, FA's with a plan. Lakers traded Gail Goodrich and the pick turned into Magic johnson. Longer term thinking can be a good thing with lots of luck. Jazz thought goodrich could help them sell tickets and improve there record. Sound familiar?

its obvious we have to stop trading our picks for players that don't make us better.

Rather simple?

The draft is as much of an unknown as trying to figure out what kind of players we going to surround Melo with after 2015. After he signs a max deal. Hopefully we can surround him with guys like Love, Irving, Aldridge, Rubio, parsons and Jeff green but what if we can't get those guys to come here?

I do know we have a pick next year which we CAN'T trade and chances are we will be in the lottery. I would love for the Knicks to hit a home run with that pick so we are not relying solely on Free agents incase we strike out again like we did in 2010 with Amare. 2015 will mark 5yrs that Melo has been here and we are running out of time. Can't afford anymore stupid mistakes like not amnestying Amare and signing Tyson instead of Chris Paul. And the Bargnani trade.
Yes we are all armchair internet fan GM's but if we weren't then there would be no reason to post on an Internet forum.

As armchair GM's, what players do you guys think we can realistically seek to put around Melo to ensure that we are not a capped out lottery team we've been since 2000?

Ironwillblobman said Cav's depress him....
