I thought the nba didn't allow that and only made the exception for the wiz and the thunder...example .utah jazz,Memphis grizzlies,nets,lakers,.. I thought you were not allowed to change the name of the club? Have the rules changed?

I think the team owner(s) have to petition the NBA front office and it also has to be approved by the other NBA owners. Charlotte also won their appeal on the name change. They will be the Charlotte Hornets next year.

Zo and LJ seemed to hate each other when on the Knicks and Heat- did they hate each other in Charlotte? What was their feud about?

Anyways, I wish Utah had given New Orleans the 'Jazz' name back.

LJ was a beloved knick but not the greatest guy.

Rebranding the NOLA team was part of the plan and could be part of negiation when NBA sold the team to saints owner. Pel's colors same as saints and Pelican is the state bird.

Sonics name stayed with League. They recognized the mistake when Jazz moved to SLC.

NFL was successful with Keeping the Browns name in Cleveland. They made the mistake of letting the Colts name go to Indy.

Lakers in Los Angeles is silly.

Im wondering how close the Nets might have come to changing their name during the evaluative process? A team changing its colors has to be a process the League must approve also.

Lakers owner that moved them from Minneapolis to LA wanted name recognition with his product. Lakers were a big deal even before moving to LA.

The Jazz owner tried to follow the Laker model when they moved even though they were not a successful team back in New Orleans. I think it was more the owner being cheap and did not want the cost included in changing names and colors.

I have not seen any explanation on why the Grizzlies kept the name. Too lazy?

Nets? They are a NY metropolitan team. No change needed.

I thought the Supersonics name was owned by the city of Seattle.

If you ever wanted to know how Lakers got Magic Johnson it was from trading Gail Goodrich. They didn't protect picks then. Lakers drafted James Worthy and Magic back to back years. It was brilliant!

I thought the Supersonics name was owned by the city of Seattle.

I beleive the the Nets got their name because the ownership at the time wanted a name to ho along with the Mets and Jets.

Yeah, it's a bit embarrassing when no one knows what the **** your team name is of, lol. I'd be more interested in changing our team colors. The idea of having Black uni's like the Spurs and Heat appeals to me.
