I read an article a few days ago about Ime Udoka drawing a lot of attention as a possible head coach candidate. He's been learning from Popovich since he's retired, so why shouldn't we give him a shot? It's not like Mike Woodson is anything special.

P.S., for those who don't remember, Udoka was a Knick during the Isiah Thomas regime. I actually liked the guy a lot. He reminded me of a poor man's Raja Bell and seemed to be a character guy.

My favorite all time knickerbocker

Hey I'm down for this. We need to take a chance on a young assistant. A great young coaching mind that understands today's NBA and it's players. Not a 1978 dinosaur. Being mentored by Popovich is a monumental bonus!

No doubt. Popovich only has but so many years left to coach, so we need to make sure to nab these guys while they still can learn from the guru. And given how well guys like Brett Brown and Mike Budenholzer are doing, the Spurs bench is a great place to find our next head coach to be. Chances are Udoka will suck at the beginning but I much rather suck with him as we work things out, than deal with a guy like Mike Woodson who has shown no growth as a decade-long NBA head coach.

It worked out for Jeff Van Gundy who was a no name beforehand. It also worked out well for Phil Jackson who was in a similar situation in Chicago. Talent is not only endemic to big names that are already in big markets.

And Ime is Popovich's assistant, who IMO, was a better X's and O's coach than Riley ever was.

Didn't may of you blast Kidd earlier in the season for being inexperience?

Y'LL can pull a name out thin air and be down for change. Understandable.

Y'all know how great those ex-Spur assistant GM's are now right?

We should hire one of those! Maybe if we can't get Buford, we can hire his assistant!!!

I've always found it interesting how some could object to something and not be able to articulate it beyond "what the ****" and "lol" responses. I'm not sure what you all think that contributes to a discussion but IMO, it's on par with "nothing". That includes you two: ToddTT and nyk4ever.

Hey!!! You hurt my feelings!

I was actually responding to nyk4ever's response because the brevity of it actually made me laugh.

As far as the topic, right now I'd take Pee Wee Herman as a replacement coach.

God I wish we could get Thibs. I hope he has a big fight with Bulls ownership.

My bad, I clearly misinterpreted that. It still befuddles me how guys constantly talk about how well trained Spurs personnel are and then are so quick to **** on a member of their personnel that is drawing attention from other franchises. It makes no sense to me, especially with the success that their guys have had in other markets; be they large (Mike Budenholzer and Brett Brown) or small (Sam Presti).

As long as its a defensive minded and grounded young assistant with a potential to learn offensive coaching.

We had Thibs. This brain-dead franchise let him walk to have Don Chaney as our head coach (who I liked).

I don't want Jeff Van Gundy back. I think guys let the theatrics of his tenure here (e.g. clinging to Zo's leg), cloud their opinions of his coaching abilities. Like Woodson, the guy had no offensive schemes or ingenuity for creating them and like Woodson, he constantly played favorites (e.g. bringing Sprewell off the bench for most of the 98-99 season). The NBA is a young man's game and I want guys that have the ability to understand the present nature of the league, with the potential to grow e.g. Ime Udoka or the Brad Stevens', Jason Kidds' and Mark Jacksons' of the world.
