Let's get our minds off the Knicks loosing for a while and lets go down the out doors concrete basket ball games that you saw or played with ex stars in the summer league.
I remember playing against Walter Dukes in summer Leagues in Jersey City. Then going to New York playing against Lew Alcender when he was in high school. Those summer league game were great. Even Earl the Pearl would come in town to play and we player on concrete and never the injuries like now.
Who do you remember either in your high school or even grammar school. Let's hear your story.

I remember in high school this guy called Hawaii, because he was from Hawaii, and he could dunk they said but I never watched a game. I think he went on to live in Hawaii again, but it was a pretty big deal he probably could've played D-3 somewhere.

Played with a few NBAers back in the late 80s to mid-90s. Bob Sura used to come back to FSU in the summertime and visited some friends down in Miami. Definitely a reminder how skilled and athletic NBA-caliber players are! Rumeal Robinson rarely dunked in the NBA so it was amazing to see him throwing oops off of the backboard and dunking on peeps in his warmups. I played extensively with Raja Bell, although he was 4-5 younger and a late teen when we played. His daddy used to bring him to the U.Miami gym to run with the older players. His dad was straight military - and used to scream at him when he didn't play tough. I worked at FIU and watched Carlos Arroyo develop - was honestly surprised he made it to the big leagues. Being about 6 ft and 170 (at the time :) = always wanted to play with Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf. He was my favorite on NBA Jam and the pros in the early 90s! Oh, and went to Dean Meminger's basketball camp around 1980ish as a 10 yr old - he was nice!

World B Free use to come to my local park to ball from time to time when I was a kid...Doc showed up once but I missed it, the local playground legends spoke about it when I showed up late..Lloyd Daniels balled there a little as I got older, didn't seem like anything special at the time..He wasn't going hard...

I played in a tournament with erick barkley from St Johns fame when I was in high school. Actually scored on him a few times. He caught me with the same move like 3 times. I remember being pissed cuffs guys ooh and awwed every time but didn't when I scored on him or made a move on him.

I played against jamaal tinsley in the park when I was in high school too. His handle was crazy. He was a hood cat at the time. He was going to Tilden but later I found out he didn't even play for them. i saw him on tv when he got to college and realized he was the guy from the park. Blew my mind.

I met Anthony mason at West 4th. He used to play down there. His handle was crazy for someone so huge.

I had just missed Steve Nash playing in the park on 77 and Riverside. He walked past me with ball clothes sweating by himself. Guys in the park are raving about him. Said he played a few full court games with them. He was the tallest guy on the court lol. Said he didn't really handle the ball he was just basically getting a sweat. Wish I got to the park earlier.

I played against Phil Weber when he was at LI Lutheren. I hit a few jumpers and blocked one of his. He was a strong kid and was good enough to get a a scholarship to NC State. I didn't!!!!!

I stopped growing at 5'9!!! I learned a hard lesson that you can't teach height!!!

Hey this makes me understand your love and passion for the game. You saw and new guys that made it and we didn't but we love the game. If I just could go back to my youth 21 years old I would have tried like hell to keep pace with the best. Yes Try!! We see so many with the gift and God given talent and they don't give their best. We all on this forum have the passion and maybe not the talent but we damn sure would give our best. And thats all we can ask of our Knicks players.

Funny....just today I shot around with Shumpert. I was playing pickup at Chelsea Piers and he showed up out of nowhere with some friends. Was working on his jumper, screwing around playing 2 on 2.

How is the run there? I have been toying around with playing again. I suck though cuz I haven't touched the ball much at all for several years. Would like to get back out there this spring.

Back in the early 90's, the top two players (seniors) from every public school in NYC was invited to an Exposure Camp @ Riverbank park. 3 courts and 3 games running simultaneous. It was about 200 of us and as I'm warming waiting for my number to be called, I see Stephon Marbury (top pg in the country at the time) on the next court warming up. I'm silently praying that they call my number to play against him. Didn't get to compete against him, but my game was at the same time as his. So I'm balling and at the same time peeking over at the next court to watch the Phenom.

I did play against God Shamgod (Providence), who had a lightning quick cross over. Played against Larry Ayuso, star player for the Puerto Rican Olympic team in High School. He dropped 36 on us but we still won. Grew up and played a ton with Shane the 'Dribbling Machine' Woney from And 1 fame.....

I'm pretty jealous of these stories. The best I got is that I played against Tobian Harris last year and blocked one of his 3 point attempts...
Knicksfan: Hypocrite league that fines players after the game for flopping but in the game and with obvious flopping they call the fouls.

Saw Sam Perkins play at Washington park in Albany.

Played with Danny Ainge - he was doing some promotional work with a company I worked for. Twice I released on the shot and Ainge got the rebound and sent long passes to me and I blew wide open layups. Third time I did it he just looked down court and shook his head.

Played against Jimmer Fredette in high school. He was a senior at Glens Falls while I was a sophomore at South Glens Falls. We were so bad that they usually pulled Jimmer after the first half. I remember being blown away. He was so much better than anyone else on the court it wasn't even fair. Even though he was that good, no one expected him to do so well in college. He was not highly recruited by any major schools.

Played against Bill Wennington when he was at Lutheran. It was different cause he wasn't
used to American culture yet, so you could body him out a lot more for big man. The star at Lutheran at that
time was Steve Rivers, who went on to play at Maryland.
I played d3 ball with Jeff Van Gundy and for his dad. Never thought back in the day he would have ended up coaching
the Knicks.

I played in a tournament that Marbury was supposed to play in. I never seen a spectacle like that in person. He was mobbed by everyone. He took a few shots and was kinda walking around. He didn't even play cuz the tourney was kinda low level. He almost shut it down. He left the gym then stayed to watch a little then he left. That felt like a pro was in the building. Dude physically made me feel inferior at the time he was huge. Taller than I expected and built like a truck. I was like 14 or so and he had to be a senior. Made me question myself cuz I had to guard point guards cuz of my height. He was intimidating.

Speaking of point guards. The best point guard I ever saw in person was Booger Smith. Used to love to see him play. The whole hood was it there for that. Games were in bedsty I'm from East ny so it was crazy out there as far as the atmosphere. Some really good games out there but Booger was like magic johnson. When shoul in the hole came out that really bugged me out. I was a big waste of talent.

I could ball back then....Still can (I'm coaching middle school girls now). As good as I might have been, I wasn't near the level of Steph. Mainly because of the height differential. Steph was a legit 6-1' 6-2, I was only about 5-6/5-7. You really don't realize how good these NBA players are until you see them in person.
