Basically NBA is split into 2 very uneven groups of teams. 2-4 teams in the East and 10-12 in the West are good NBA level teams and all the rest are D-league level junk including Knicks. NBA is over-expanded and there is not enough talent to go around including players, coaches, executives to keep the level of play the best teams have. The new CBA suppose to redistribute the talent around but looks like the situation is getting worth not better. No one wants to lower the quality of the clubs. Time to contract.

In my opinion they need to send 2 worst team from each conference to D-league and then next year have 2 best teams from D-league replace another 2 worst in NBA. This will make the D-league a meaningful thing and make the bottom of the NBA competitive not the tanking bunch. It is actually an expansion as it will bring all the rest of D-league into the picture. More places, more fans. Everybody wins.

the poor play is not a reason to contract- its an indictment on poor management.
And also to some degree, points out how different b ball is from other sports- because you can have one or two dominant players, and it makes a huge difference to the franchise.
Take Tim Duncan off the spurs - they are still good, but nowhere near as dominant.

The best dleague teams stink. A division 1 college basketball team would beat a dleague team more often than not.

If this draft is as great as people say it is, then the east getting most of the top picks should help even things out. Our potential lottery pick going to Denver won't help though.

since we stop letting HS kids jump to the NBA, the talent level seems to have gotten worse
Yes, but when you let more HS players in the league you risk bringing in more man-children like JR Smith who think they are kids forever. In my opinion the NBA environment is not really fit for an 18 year old, they need that year at college as a buffer.

That's why they stink - no competition, no purpose. Dleague is completely useless as it is.

People are different. Some mature at 18 and some are babies at 30. There is no proper place to send them to if they do not belong to man game yet. Strong D-league with purpose will provide for this. Owners with a lot of money should be able to own 2 clubs - one in NBA and one in secondary league. The NHL model is out there to copy. Very effective.
