He complained about not getting in the game in OT vs the Suns. Instead of being a good teammate and just happy his team won. You can see why it took Woodson so long to bench this clown. They knew JR was going to make a circus out of it.

Heard it on radio. Don't have a link but makes sense. I mean why play him 2 games then DNP him again

Hopefully he is traded today but I doubt anyone will go near him. Not even China

You cant operate with one of you core cogs being in and out. I don't see this as a person who will start to role model anytime soon. Hes getting paid either playing or not playing.

Bootleg Alert

Knicks22 - Watching this selfish, immature, me-first, low BB IQ fool get 30+ minutes (and 100% of crunch time) demonstrates this Coach must be replaced, and there is zero leadership from the 'stars' on that team.

Papabear Says - It's time for Woody to stop rolling the dice with JR. Sit his butt down until he gets it. Woody I am starting to wonder about.

Gunsnewing - The more he plays the more we lose. Good job Woody.

Lets see what happens. If JR gets traded I think Woody did a pretty good job navigating this. He needs time to get numbers and have value, and when he's played well he's helped the team. Sitting him to rot or banished doesnt help anyone. He may not be an asset but you can hopefully trade him for another guy looking for a change of scenery.

Nalodian "Play2 conspiracy style" theory:

MSG has a tight hold via media moles making sure the players speak properly. We won't know whats going on until its leaked and then we won't know for sure.

I would imagine teams have private security/investigative services keep tabs of players private activities to better measure their levels of professionalism. By that, how will you know if a player is clubbing? How will you know the company they keep? Basically my take is JR smith last year was worth far more than the 18mm 3 year deal he got based on his play. Sure his bone head elbow move was a bad moment but this kid has great talent. If you better understand how unprofessional he is off the court the more one might understand how that can translate to his play on the court. We only know what is fed thru us via the media and his legal troubles. Like a teenager who gets caught doing something you just know its not usually a first offense and its habitual.

My take is he is clubbing and its translating to his game either by missing assignments and his attitude in practice and around the team. This is just my take and opionon. I have no conclusive "YouTube" video to back it up. We have a guy clowning and getting punished excessively with little reason.
Most professionals and skilled workers performance would be affected by many kinds of off hours activity so my theory is not just exclusive to pro athletes. Rex Chapman timing the last 10 days about "A player who could not concentrate and seemingly high" could have been JR.

If you add up his suspension to start the season, history, court inconsistancy, odd tweets, his tats look childish (Transformers on your neck? Really?)and the obvious egocentric immature legal matters on top of his awful car accident there is a pattern.

These kids are big investments to clubs and their contracts are not easily broken. Im sure Woodson is terribly frustrated by the time he has put and has been quoted as saying so on the bench. This "betrayal" of sorts has to hurt Woodson and JR's "Betrayal" could be very childish as feeling he is being punished.

As with Marbury, Knicks seeminlgy put up with a lot and when your asset base is thin you have to take gambles on guys with talent and in JR's case it was thought if he was "home" his father and brother can keep him grounded. This kid has 15mil per year talent! Its not working.

This is just how it adds up to me. What to do? I really don't know. As a fan we are not privy to real information and if my instincts are correct he is not tradable unless a team thinks a change of scenary would do him good and in exchange for an asset similar or a bad contract in return. I don't think JR for Rubio is anything but a delusion, even if you "Throw in a draft pick or two" as fans usually like to sweeten things up.

Kind of reminds me of Ricky Davis who despite his talents got banished from the league. Why is Ricky on our Dleague team? They are awful enough? Maybe he has grown up but is that how we roll now? Keep grabbing old project guys?

Last nite was a game good teams are suppose to win. After the Suns game the team was already tired and Melo's "Shyt" comment was a telling comment.

My friend and I considered going last nite but he called me up at 3pm and said "really want to see them on the second of a back to back with that in mind?"

We did not go.

Bottom line is JR last year was a pleasure to watch and his talent is extreme when his head is on right.

When he did his elbow thing last year the whole chemistry of the team changed. Not saying JR on right and healthy gets us by Indy, but woodson lost a key player and with the pressure on I can understand why he felt putting the weight on the unproven Cope made sense.

The notion of coach's ruining a players trade value makes little sense. Teams are not stupid, they do their homework and JR's play tells a story. His off court antics are documented. If the knicks know the kid is in trouble or raging hard off the court and don't disclose its not good business and the league seems to take care of this by itself.

Nobody wins by "ruining" a kid. Nobody. I can't imagine a team wanting to take him on unless its in february for a playoff push but he has two more years on his contract. ITs why Nate gets short term deals.

BTW, my opinion on Nate is he takes care of his body and is ok off the court but has some personality disorder that makes him a nutjob and annoying longer term. JR is just a very immature man.

I agree, but I worry what happens if we don't have a trade lined up. Benching him doesn't really make sense if we didn't have one- all its done is decrease his value further as other teams know we're desperate to get rid of him.

It doesn't so much change teams view of the player, but it does alter the Knicks negotiating position. If a player is suspended or benched by a team, there is now a distraction- the team HAS to get rid of him, therefore the other teams can offer less or even ask for some sweeteners

If this is true, this is a problem that the Knicks created themselves. This is one of the pitfalls of double standards. Players on the wrong end of the double standard don't respect you because they see there is different classes of players. Players on the "good" end of the double standard don't respect you because they are used to getting away with their bad behavior.

You think teams don't know what going on? You think they don't know about all his legal troubles, what he was like in Denver, New Orleans and him clubbing, weed smoking? Then look at his shooting %? The Elbow meltdown? You think GM's don't talk to his former coaches? Former teammates? Guys retired not with teams now? Think its a big old secret and benching him lets the cat out of the bag?

Think its good business among teams to trade a player who might be going thru either personal drama for what ever reason and not disclose it?

Ujiri: Hi Steve, can we discuss JR?

Mills: Sure, how about a swap for Lowrey? How is he feeling?
Ujiri: Hes great, you got his tape?

Mills: Kids playing good. His health?
Ujiri: His knee is holding up well, i'll kick over his MRI, ortho reports and have your doc's look at it! How is JR?

Mills: His numbers are down since last year, his knee is fine, we'll send over his stuff too!
Ujiru: Why you trading him?

Mills: Um, well, yeah, Why you trading lowrey?
Ujiri: We going youthier, his contract is expiring and ownership wants to reboot. JR over his clubbing? His Weed suspension? ShoeGate? emotional state with Chris gone? Spoke to some folk around the league and it seems like he really has not changed.
Mills: How do you know?

Ujiri: Im just going on what I read. Im not stupid. If he was playing like he did last year then thats one thing. Mike Jordan was a degenerate low life but was money day in and day out. Not interested.
Mills: Was it because we are benching him?

Ujiri: Its because work is Woodson is a high integrity man, even George Karl says it, and his reputation is very good, for him to get frurstrated with him after all the garbage you guys ate its no wonder. Throw in a 1st round pick and I'll take it too ownership!
Mills: You took all of them.
Ujiri: Damn, forgot about that. So
rry. Congrats on the new gig.

Mills: yeah, Dolan pays well and while the little dude got his issues, I got one of his condo's, a 4 bedroom with fireplace overlooking the park, lots of jet perks, and killer comp package. Just have to listen to his band a lot but they are really not that bad. You?
Ujiri: Sounds great! Im gonna turn this gig around, rake in 9 mil over 3 years and then your gonna hire me to bring in washed up Lebron?
Mills: Can I have one of my picks back??

Exactly. The moment he got a multiuser deal and and all effort went out the window. I really detest JR right now.

They can look at last years performance (he was really good during the season), and then maybe convince themselves he's been playing poorly this year due to the knee surgery and will get better, and that NY is too close to home, family and distractions, and so he might behave better away from there. I don't think he's a lost cause- but maybe we're not the right environment for him anymore. He needs some vets and leadership. His contract is only a couple of years, and he can opt out after one more.
