Woodson has always been worth rooting for, didn't become some to root for because the Knicks shocked everybody by going to Texas and beating the Spurs and nearly getting themselves a three-game sweep. Whatever Dolan's reasons for keeping him, Dolan did the right thing and not the easy thing for a team going sideways. He kept a coach who is not just the right coach for his team but the best basketball man in the entire operation.

This doesn't mean the Knicks are in the clear, doesn't mean they're going to win the Atlantic again, end up with even a .500 record, beat out the Nets, who have started to play for Jason Kidd in 2014 the way the Knicks have started to play for Woody. The Knicks are still just a .500 team since that Washington game and the non-timeout that shook the world.

But they have beaten the Spurs, beaten the Heat, played hard, passed better lately, defended better. Woodson didn't become a good coach because he'd finally had enough of Smith, a player he needed last season when the Knicks were winning the Atlantic. He's not a good coach because Iman Shumpert found his game, after the false narrative that somehow Woodson was the one who made him lose

- Mike Lupica

Given their recent performance, despite the numerous injuries and rumors, does any coach patch a rotation together better than Mike Woodson?

Refusing to comment on the status of JRSmith is appropriate for the situation.

Fans like a quick buzz with new coach. Sometimes its needed, often its not.

Knicks have a lot of problems, but its coach is not one of them.

And if Knicks drop 4 in a row and look lazy?? It'll be back to fire Woodson. "What have you done for me lately?"

Woodson deserves to get fired. He definitely earned that.

Somehow the team had turned it back on and they look better than last season at times. Woodson is still overly reliant I on veterans and refuses to play younger guys. He still has our key players playing almost 40 minds a night. He is still the worst coach at making adjustments coming out of a time out. He still runs zero plays and runs unorganized isolation plays for Carmelo even when other guys have it going.

If Amare didn't have a minutes restriction he would be averaging 40 minutes a Game too.

Glad we turned it around but we can't be blind to our flaws cuffs we still have them

Knicks fans are something to behold. We are always distracted by the shiny object in the room. A recent win streak does not suddenly negate all the flaws of our coach. A 54 win season last year did not solve our coaching problems. He can get away with his issues during the regular season but they ALWAYSshow up in the playoffs. Let's not make this same mistake again.

Since this seems similar to a post I responded to yesterday when someone tried to blame our coaches lack of ability to coach on injures, I will re-post my answer to him in this thread.

I am not sure if you are talking about other people but injured players have nothing to do with why I think woody is a bad coach.
Playing JR clutch minutes when it is obvious he is having an awful game has nothing to do with injuries.
Going ISO Melo at the end of every single close game has nothing to do with injuries.
Double teaming crappy players in the post only to give up open 3's has nothing to do with injures.
The inability to know when to call timeouts at the end of the game has nothing to do with injuries.
The preferential treatment he has towards players has nothing to do with injuries.
His lack of situational play calling has nothing to do with injures.
His lack of plays that don't lead to an ISO Melo has nothing to do with injuries.
His lack of in game adjustments has nothing to do with injuries.
His lack of Playoff series adjustments has nothing to do with injuries.
His lack of basketball IQ has nothing to do with injuries.
There is a ton of reasons why I thought woody was a bad coach and I still think he is a bad coach. There is a good chance I am forgetting a lot more issues I have with him.

Woodson is doing a better job but still likely gets fired after the season. Too many late game mistakes to not put some blame on the coach. Also, yes this team has many flaws, but any decent coach should at least keep this team above a .500 record, it's not that hard with the overall talent here.

What talent? For most of the season, our second best player was a guy who Toronto wanted to amnesty

just because we won 4 games in a row does not mean woodson is a good caoch. he's been awful all year and was awful in the playoffs last year.

Not to get off topic too much, but the supposed amnesty of Bargs is very much a media/fan inspired rant. Toronto would not have benefited at all from that move, and its obvious that he had/has some trade worth.

Regardless of how cynical they've made you, this team definitely has enough talent to play above .500.

Woodson screwed around w/ the rotation and guy's minutes way too much early on. Those things should have been figured out beforehand and is a huge reason they are even in this hole. Add that to JR's idiocy, Shump's mental state and Tyson's flu-like symptoms and it's a nice mixture for this 14-22 start.

Even so, they will still make the playoffs, but I will not be mad one bit if Woodson gets the hook. Especially if reports come to fruition about Thibs and there are no tampering charges.

Yeah, some worth as a 7th man perhaps. You won't see a player like him in the starting lineup of a top team like the Spurs though. And your situation is a disaster if he's your #2.

The thought of stealing Thibs from the bulls really excites me

He woukldnt start for a top team? Heat start Rashard Lewis. Is Bargs beter then Rashard? Why is the assumption Bargs is the Knicks 2nd best player? What are you basing that on? He replaces role player types like Camby/Kurt/Sheed/Novak

This notion that Bargs is for some reason supposed to be the Knicks 2nd star is stupid, unfounded and just some poor and uninformed tactic to dog this roster and team by those who have made it clear its their agenda to do so.

In terms of importance, impact and need for good play? Knicks go as these guys go first:
1) Melo 2) Felton 3) Tyson 4) Shumpert and I ommited JR for my own personal gratitude

Bargnani is paid like a #2 but he is the least of our problems since his contract will be expiring soon. I just hope we are not a lottery team in 2016 when Toronto gets out 1st round pick

This team is flawed, but no one in their right mind thinks this team isn't good enough to play above .500 basketball. If this team can't sleepwalk to .500 then there is serious issues, coaching not an exception. Toronto amnestying Bargnani would have been something other than a basketball talent decision if it happened.

Coaches cannot shoot, rebound or pass.

Thank you.

Swap out more than half of your rotation and it requires at least 2-3 months to learn tendencies, preferences and trust.

Even Miami struggled with blending lite talent.

and since they can't do any of those things, they better do what they are supposed to do right, which is: get the most out of their roster, create successful plays in timeouts and have control over their players. woodson has failed at all 3 of these.
