RENO, Nev. – The representatives for NBA Development League leading scorer Pierre Jackson have received permission from the New Orleans Pelicans to pursue a trade.

High-scoring guard Pierre Jackson is looking for an NBA opportunity. (USA TODAY Sports)
Jackson is averaging 30.1 points and 4.8 assists in 17 games this season with the Idaho Stampede. The former Baylor star scored a D-League-high 49 points against Fort Wayne on Dec. 14. The Pelicans own Jackson's draft rights and can call him up, but their roster is guard-heavy. The Pelicans could be seeking a draft pick or a player making a minimum salary in a trade for Jackson's draft rights, a source told Yahoo Sports.

"Pierre is playing great," Jackson's agent, Colin Bryant, said from the D-League Showcase here Monday. "I have a great relationship with [Pelicans general manager] Dell Demps. We're working together to do what is best for both Pierre and the Pelicans."

Jackson led Baylor to a 2013 National Invitational Tournament championship and averaged 19.8 points and 7.1 assists as a senior. The 5-foot-11, 176-pounder was drafted 42nd overall in the second round of the 2013 NBA draft by the Philadelphia 76ers before his rights were traded to the Pelicans. Jackson, the third overall selection of the 2013 D-League draft, earns a $28,000 salary with the Stampede. The minimum salary for an NBA rookie is $490,180.

"He's an NBA player. He can help a team right now," one NBA GM said.

Jackson scored 33 points, with five 3-pointers and eight assists, during Idaho's 93-88 victory over the Canton Charge on Monday morning. The D-League Showcase began Sunday and ends Thursday with each team playing twice in front of NBA front office executives and scouts.

Jackson said he is doing his best not to let his situation stress him.

"I can only take it one way, try to stay positive through it all, stay positive, continue to play the way I'm playing and win games," said Jackson, who has averaged 37.3 points in his past three games.

I'd honestly like to just see more Toure and less Felton and Beno. Split the minutes between Felton, Pablo and Toure. And cut JR's minutes (won't happen ever)

I have liked Pierre Jackson so much I said I wouldn't even mind using our 1st round draft pick on him, actually I wanted to use it and believed he is between Nate and Cp3 but closer to a PG than Nate ever will be (but Nate will probably be the better athlete (at least jumping wise)
We need a PG that could penetrate, facilitate, and hit a 3pter, I believe he can do all of that but how long will he take to development and do we have the patience and staff to do so....

Having Melo with ISO's is kind of ANTI PG, at whenever Melo feels the need to over rule the PG, and that can be 15 straight plays
JR will have 3-5 in between and AB will have 3, Amare 2, and before you know it everyone else says let me get a crack too

And that is our problem
It starts with our COACH

We have so many PG's on our team already

Unless one gets hurt for the year, I don't see us adding 1 more

I mean I don't even think Murry will even play when Felton and Pablo come back, at least not when it counts, despite their games being complete opposites

Look at the playoffs and the Pacers series and how we finished the season with Copeland

Copeland played his best stretch at C and we blew Pacer's out twice, after the game, Voguel even said it was almost impossible to defend The Knick's with 5 3pt threats and Hibbert just cannot go out there

So as Chandler gets abused, Kmart also doesn't have the ability to counter Hibbert's size, and we cannot get in the paint, AMARE comes to the rescue after not playing 3 months
It was obvious to some here, to TRY TO pull Hibbert out, as he was always cheating in the paint, and we couldn't get in
On top of it, Chandler just was getting constantly eaten up
We were constantly down in each game 10-20+ pts, but little adjustments were actually made to the style of play

but

even when Copeland was shining and part of our come back in a game 6, coming down from 20+ point deficit, Copeland goes out and Melo comes in and waives all the good ball movement off/spacing and decides to say IT IS MY TIME TO SHINE.....

Now I am pointing the finger at COACH WOODSON more than I am blaming CA, much more

My point in bringing this is, Woodson is stubborn and just sticks with certain players, Felton will start and play
Pablo (I am not so sure of, I think he is not a sure thing even when he returns "healthy")

but

unless

Udrih or Pablo get hurt or traded, I just don't think we would trade for Jackson
and question is what do we trade?

a 1st round draft protected pick with getting 2 2nd round picks back?
We used up many of our 2nd rounders already, I think the next one is 2017 or 18

I'm curious as to why he is still in D-League and not at the very least riding the bench for the Pelicans? Sure looks like he made a case for himself.

Roberts is serviceable as well and they are invested in 1st round pick, Rivers as well

While Holiday is an ALL STAR PG with

Eric Gordon (if it wasn't for his injuries he could probably play a bit more PG like he did with the Clippers) and Tyreke Evans as Combo guards

Makes sense.

Kudos to Finestrg who has been dropping this guy's name ever since the draft. I was really impressed with him; he reminded me of a miniature Reggie Jackson who is also starting to blow up.

Just to recap his mindset -- Jackson wants out of New Orleans. Never wanted to play there...He saw the logjam in their backcourt right away and didn't want any part of it -- that's why he contemplated going to France (w/o any apparent objection from the Pelicans). Then when it came time to pack his bags for France, he decided against it, that he would get too homesick, and opted for a DL assignment instead with the Pelicans retaining his rights.

Loved him since Baylor. Not hard to see that the kid's a promising dynamo of a talent, even with the height issue (which isn't that big a deal -- again, what's the difference between 6', 6'1" and 5'10" [DX has him at 5'10.5" in shoes btw] esp. for a guy with this kid's hops, speed & overall athletic ability?). It's negligible, more like a non-issue...I'd offer any combination of the following -- Cole Aldrich, Toure Murry, cash, a future 2nd rounder. See where that goes. For a guy that's never played an NBA game, is only 5'10" etc., that may be enough. Could be a more potent Kemba Walker or Jameer Nelson. A more athletic Patty Mills possibly? Damon Stoudamire?? Calvin Murphy was a standout talent for a good 10 years in the NBA at 5'9"....He's worth pursuing, man -- he's a better option over Murry to move forward with imo. Article makes it sound like PJ's reps will be the ones reaching out to teams, not the Pelicans. Hopefully one of their first calls is to the Knicks (don't see why it wouldn't be -- come on, with our PG situation and then a chance to get their client a chance to play for the Knicks, NYC, the Mecca..) and then hopefully the idea peaks Mills' interest.

No doubt New Orleans will ask for a 1st round pick -- we counter by telling them "look, we rejected the idea of parting with a 1st rounder for a proven PG in Kyle Lowry -- you're not getting a 1st round pick for a 5'10" PG that's never played an NBA game. Get real. And your player's reps contacted us btw." Obviously I think much more highly of PJ than that, but that's how we need to play this. It's about posturing, keeping our cards close to the vest...Once they realize they won't get a 1st rounder, I think we have as much to offer as anybody else out there -- cash (up to the $3mm max? -- I wouldn't let cash hold up this deal); a future 2; a YOUNG, capable former lottery big man that's not being given a shot by Mike Woodson; a YOUNG 6'5" functional combo guard that's currently producing at the NBA level...Having PJ's reps contact us only helps our cause here regarding negotiations...I really like this move for us a lot.
