Andrew Bynum is due $6 million on Jan. 7. (David Liam Kyle/National Basketball)

The Cleveland Cavaliers are looking to trade center Andrew Bynum to the Utah Jazz in exchange for veteran forward Richard Jefferson, according to Marc Stein and Brian Windhorst of ESPN.

The Cavs have been shopping Bynum since he was suspended indefinitely last week for conduct detrimental to the team. Bynum is due another $6 million if he is on a team’s roster on Jan. 7, but if he is waived before then his team will clear that amount off their caps.

Cleveland had been in talks to trade Bynum to the Los Angeles Lakers for Pau Gasol, but those talks have bogged down in recent days. The Lakers would save over $20 million in salary and luxury tax penalties by acquiring and then waiving Bynum in exchange for Gasol, but are said to want another young player or a draft pick from Cleveland as part of the deal.

It is believed that the Jazz are willing to make a straight trade of 33-year old Jefferson for the troubled Bynum.

JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

What did Bynum learn out there in LA that makes him not want to play basketball hard anymore ?

Does he think he's Wilt Chamberlin now ?

Cleveland fans wondering why Lebron left, look no further to their Owner.

Hopefully we can dump JR and Barganani on them for Bynum. It does nothing toward helping our win column but at least we get rid of those two liabilities.

And yeah, Dan Gilbert is a certifiable douchebag. I hope that team never sees any success with him as the owner.

Not buying any of this. Cleveland is dangling Bynum because they're in a unique position to basically give somebody else an amnesty by snagging Bynum and waiving him before the 7th. Picking up Richard Jefferson or Pau Gasol alone doesn't do anything for them or salvage their season. They're just looking for somebody desperate to toss a pick into a deal so they can get an asset for a guy they're not gonna use anyway.

I don't think Dan Gilbert being a dick has anythng to do with any of this. While his behavior became transparent for all to see I don't blame the guy for going off after lebron bolted the way he did. Lebron got everything he ever asked for and put demands on Gilbert to get him help which in reality weakend the franchise.

LeBron added nearly $200 million to the value of the franchise, so it wasn't like Gilbert was doing him any favors. Gilbert had a guy that was a one-man 40 win team and his incompetence couldn't build a real contender around that. It shouldn't have come as a surprise to him why LeBron left.
