This season is a train wreck, but a lot of people are trying to use THIS SEASON as a reason to erase any success the team, and any satisfaction the fans, had last year. All I hear is, "we got on a few lucky streaks last year, but when playoffs came we barely beat an old and depleted Boston team, and got abused by Indiana." Did we get some lucky calls against Boston to win in 7 games? Did we get swept by Indiana? Reality is that we won in 6 against Boston and lost in 6 against Indiana. How that equates to barely beating one team and getting abused by the other, is beyond me. We were up late in the 4th quarter at Indy in game 6, staring at a game 7 at the Garden. We also beat a lot of good teams in the regular season last year. Just because we're horrible this year doesn't mean we weren't good last year.

The perception that we were always this bad and just got lucky last year is irrational. The more accurate perception is that the Knicks were a solid 2nd tier team last year and that many things have gone wrong since then, including:

1) JR going from 6th man to dog ****.
2) Shump going from an asset to a detriment.
3) Chandler being injured most of this season.
4) Felton battling injuries, weight, and inconsistency all season.
5) Melo shooting as badly as he ever has through the first 20 games.
6) Woody more or less losing the team.
7) Priggs injury, which leveled any chance we had to creep back into the division race.
8) Nobody stepping up as a leader, leaving a fat void which was filled last year by Kidd and company.
9) Stat keeps playing. We know that the team wins more games when he doesn't play.
10) We lost rotation players and gained new ones. On paper the additions still look decent compared to the subtractions. But anytime you change a lot of the pieces on a team, it should be expected that there will be some growing pains as the team gets used to each other.

So that is the adversity the team has faced to this point, and that is what's gone wrong. The only two things that have gone right: THJ and a weaker than expected Eastern conference. But those two points aren't enough to overcome that monstrous list of negatives. The Knicks were a lot of fun to watch last year and they were a scary team to play. So much has gone wrong since then; this team is nothing like that team now.
