In newspaper media today Dolan talking about T-mac and Kobe and what "charisma" it would bring.

This dude is all about selling tickets, not team construction.

And him saying "not married to Starbury" comment tells you he will use steph as bait. Steph and KT for T-mac? Kobe?

IT would have Charisma!

My point is he is more interested in keeping the knicks "interesting" as a media entertainment product than core team construction building a core team that can win and contend for the ultimate prize.

As bad as Laydog was the last few years, last year steps were made for long term risk taking with a core of young players. Jury is way out as to its success, and we have long been thru this over and over, but it was the first attempt in DECADES to lay some foundation.

Isiah was bought in and the buzz and tickets were sold. Again, all history. But under the "charisma" Isiah brings is still the core goal of selling tickets vs. building a team. And I don't count the Ewing years as we trashed our rookies for former allstars and misfits. I loved those guys, but it was short lived. Of the 15 years we made the playoffs, perhaps 5 of those teams were legit, and one trip to the finals.

Great franchises find ways to rebuild in less than 2 years and keep going. Utah can do it with far less resources than us, Indiana, Lakers, even portland remains with a core of assets of young players.

The older guys here know what I am talking about. Some of the young dudes look at the 1990's as a great franchise, but they were always flawed with ewing worn out by the playoffs.

Ewing was a warrior whom played thru injury, but he needed more help.

Are we doomed to repeat? History will tell.

i would love to turn around and do a deal that got us much younger and built a foundation for a style of play. But realistically with this payroll and luxury tax payment--there is just no way no way that they would do it. I think they feel that they have players who will get them to the playoffs and perhaps a second round bid. It still will be very difficult because I believe Indiana and Detroit are way ahead of us and the Nets will be able to really increase size with Nenad and they have a pick where they should get quality+ i think they are going to re-do part of their bench.

were going to get vets and we will have a majority of this team back

most owners are, thats life.

I'm not that worried about the other teams. The Pistons arent resigning both Okur and Raweed. The Nets arent resigning both KMart and Jefferson as the Zo contract set them way back.

Maybe I'm silly but I think it takes more than 3 months to restructure a roster built around Houston, KVH and McDyess with a $100 mm payroll.

Why dont we see what Isiah does next... just a thought.

Dude, I'm no fan of Dolan's, but I think you misread his quote. He meant that pulling off getting one of those two to the Knicks would require LOTS of charisma, e.g., "Now THAT would be charisma."

Do you think the Nets would actually let either of K-Mart or Jefferson go? I'm sure they will match any offer.

Word down here in the home of The Rat is that the Magic GM (the hockey guy) really blew it with his comment about McGrady deciding whether he wants to stay or go, and that now they HAVE to trade him. There's talk of a straight up trade for Kobe (if he stays out of jail), and also something with Phoenix involving Shawn Marion. Only thing that would keep him in Orlando is if they got the first pick and took Okafur and made some other moves. But having watched the NBA propaganda machine Stern runs all these years, I'm willing to bet the farm that somehow Cleveland will land the 1st pick to get Lebron (Carmelo deserved ROTY) into the playoffs quicker and for longer.

So as for McGrady to the Knicks, what would Orlando want from NY? From their perspective here, you need a star for a star, so nothing less than Marbury and KT. Rasheed is still a chance if Detroit implodes in the 2nd round. Portland wants to move Abdur-Rahim, not the answer though.
