It ain't that deep

Through 16 games, Carmelo Anthony averaged 22 shots a game for the Knicks. The Knicks were 3-13. Melo had 12 attempts against the Nets. 10 against the Magic. Ten.

Balance starts with more players touching the ball. “I’ve always said since I’ve been here I want a team offensively where you just don’t know where it’s going to come from.”’ - Mike Woodson

“Me scoring 30 wasn’t working” I wanted to do something a little different to see if it worked” - #7

The results?
Vs Nets - six scorers in double figures
Vs Magic - seven in double figures

The most essential player in the Knicks equation, I Man Shumpert, has balled out the past two games. On Thursday against Brooklyn, he had 17 points, hitting five of his seven 3-point attempts. Shumpert has also pulled down 10 rebounds in the past two games.

"I think energy on the defensive end is causing shots to fall." - #21

Sounds crazy huh?

Hopefully they remember that for the playoffs this time and not tense up and revert to isos where Melo gets his 30-40 and we lose

If JR and Shump are hitting shots it changes everything. These guys were so brutal during the losing stretch, it's almost understandable that Melo had to force shots. That said, I think the best version of Melo for this team would average something like: 23/10/4

I have a feeling you would have the same exact complaints about Ewing.

It's not a complaint. It's pretty obvious that this is how the Knicks have to play with the talent that they have

Houston, LJ and spree were key contributors it wasn't just Ewing. Any one of them even Starks was capable of 20 on any given night. The offense didn't consisted of dumping it to Ewing for 30 shots a night

Yeah, Ewing and Melo have nothing in common.
PPG-obsessed fans don't realize it though.

I'd pull up their scoring averages but I'm driving

Shumpert is averaging only 7pts on less than 5 shots a game.

The old argument ia Melo has no one to pass it to. No one to help him score. these guys are in the NBA for a reason. They can knock down open jumpers. Move the ball and the ball finds energy. Teammates gain confidence. I know I sound like Dantoni but he is right in that aspect. If the Knicks do that and play defense they will be alright

Push it real good.

gunsnewing - the new argument is that if you squint real hard, Andrea Bargnani is playing more like Scottie Pippen (chicks dig the blocked shots) and Iman Shumpert is good for solid double figures on a nightly basis.

“Our defense is generating offense for us,” - Mike Woodson

Whose idea was it to platoon the forwards?

Teamwork takes time.

Yeah, it comes out once every 10 years for Melo!
Seriously, if he could play like this it would be awesome but I don't expect it

Dancing With The Stars

bonn1997 - enjoy watching Andrea Bargnani (15 and 5.4 with 1.5 blocks) learning to tailor his game in a new city.

We have two versatile big men who are learning how to dance as one.

That may be the case, which would be great, or it may just be that they beat up on 2 bad teams
I wish Melo would aim to take just 12 high quality shots per game.
Will he trust his teammates in close games or only when there's a 30 point cushion?

Yea I want to see this against Indiana before I get overly excited. And not revert back to hero ball. and not play right into the defenses hands. then will be in great shape

Kudos to Woodson for DEMANDING that the Knicks move the ball and even working on it in practice instead of lettin Melo and jr call their own plays which meant calling their own numbers. It seems Woodson was even drawing up offensive plays last night. It took almost getting fired after the Nets game but he adjusted and that's all that matters.

It showed me Woodson really likes his no and wants to keep it. I know it's tough to stand up to your franchise player but he did and for that he has my respect

And Bargnani has been great

You Can Trust The Answer Man Anytime

Q. Bonn1977 - Will he trust his teammates in close games or only when there is a 30 point cushion?

A. So long as Bargnani continues to shoot .46 from the floor and Hardaway Jr is money (43 pct) from three point range, trust becomes second nature.

JR Smith (.35) and Ray Felton (.41) have work to do.

Actually I'm not sure if Woodson demanded ball movement or Melo finally decided to change his approach. He said he did. Whatever it was it works and they should not stray from this style of play. Guys feel involved they lockdown on defense. See Bargnani and Shumpert and Felton were spry

I think melo thrives on very strong teams. On the Olympics he was very efficient but that team outclassed all others. Melo is not a build around me player. He is ideally a vital cog on an already very strong team. He needs to be on teams with a level talent like a Durant or Lebron, Kobe etc
Rose is not the answer.
