The Grizzlies are off to a slow start this season and Gasol's play has seemed to take a bit of a dip. For whatever reason, their team wants to push the ball which Gasol obviously isn't a good fit for. If they really are committed to an uptempo team, maybe we could swap Tyson Chandler and Iman Shumpert for Marc Gasol and Tony Allen. Chandler, after all, is as nimble and athletic as they come at the 5 position and has been at his best in faster paced offenses (the Knicks minus Melo/plus Lin, the Mavericks and the Hornets). Both he and Gasol are about the same age (31 to 28) making this issue moot. Meanwhile, Iman is a notably better shooter than Tony Allen and is a similarly gifted defender. Age wise, the Grizzlies get the better of the deal, which should help add some incentive for them to do it. I like this deal for both teams, especially from our end since Gasol can effectively run our offense from the 5 spot and is far more dynamic scorer, which will allow better access to the lane for our perimeter players. Thoughts?

Like it I guess, but if there's one guy there who is untouchable in Memphis it's Gasol. This trade favors the Knicks too much. Gasol can have the offense run through him, and was DPOY last year. They don't want to move him. Tony Allen has 4 years on his contract counting this one, fully guaranteed. Means we are stuck with him once STAT, Bargs, and Chandler's contracts are up. We'd be saddled with him or have to unload him for dirt.

Good thinking though. Oh, and this won't happen because it increases our team's salary by almost 4 M, which is like 8 M after tax. No bueno.

I think I would say no because of Toney allen inability to space the floor and his contract. Even a straight up trade give me pause because of Gasol lack of rebounding but he does bring a better all around offensive game. The passing his bring would help a bunch. Even though Memphis is going to a more advance stat approach I doubt they think Chandler is more valuable to Memphis.

I would but I can't see Memphis agreeing to it. Gasol is younger and better than Tyson and Shumpert still isn't much more than potential at this point.

Gasol grew up in Memphis when Pau was coming up. He loves it there. So that would be hard to pry him away.... Tyson and Shump is pretty fair through. Very interesting idea.

You are describing Gasol from last year, not this year. The Grizzlies are looking to push the ball now, which clearly takes Gasol out of his element. This is why I think that we'd have a punchers chance of getting him, especially with the Grizzlies needing to make a quick decision on him before he becomes a free agent. Personally, I love his game and think he's a player you'd change your plans for (e.g. Allen's contract disrupting our 2015 plans).

The good comes with the bad; there is no such thing as a perfect deal. More importantly, we are not limited to just one deal per season so if another leak is sprung, make a trade to fix it. It is a bareable inconvenience for one of the best big men in the game that makes things easier on Melo.
