Let me preface this by saying, 1: I'm a huge Shump fan and want him to stay, be happy, be healthy, be utilized. He's one of the few guys in the league I would trust to cover the likes of P. George, Wade, Kobe, etc. He's explosive and when he gets that fire lit, can go off. 2: I'm usually not a fan of trade proposal threads....

BUT, the Kings called on him and Stein is reporting it, so I looked over the roster and salaries in Sacramento, and came away thinking we might be able to get real value back from this squad.

Shump & Felton & Beno - Total about $6.2 M

for

Vasquez & Jason Thompson - Total about $7.7 M

According to the CBA, when over the cap you can take on 125% of the salaries you release (+ 100K). We get a legit young general-like starting point (led the league in assists last year) who doesn't need to score to be productive (Felton does), lose dead weight in Beno (I had high hopes for the guy but he doesn't look good), and get back a 6'11" - 250lb underachieving flex 4/5 from NJ who went to Rider (in NJ), who is almost at 10 boards per 36 min. And it frees up a roster spot for Tyler. (Yes, another big, we have too many injury prone and the more the merrier IMO)

PG: Vasquez - Prigioni - Murry
SG: Smith - HJr.
SF: Melo - MWP - KMart
PF: Bargs - Thompson - STAT - (Tyler)
C: Chandler - Thompson - Aldrich (Tyler)

Likelihood of this happening is (James Dolan) to 1, but it's intriguing to think about.

(Beno and Aldrich make the same salary wise, so either could be included for it to work, so for those who thought Aldrich instead, Sacremento didn't want him back after last season, so probably won't take him in a package - they could take him and then release him I suppose. Then we could keep Beno as 3rd PG and shift Murry to 3rd SG)

Hey Mills, you read this nonsense we die-hard write on here? If so, look this over. I won't hit you up asking for credit if you get it done. When on the phone with Sac's office, explain how good Shump will be as a defender and swingman with their young scoring guards like Thomas and Fredette.

They probably offered Patrick Patterson and Chuck Hayes! (and demanded a draft pick in addition to shump!)

Oh man, I wouldn't trade any player I liked to the Kings- it's where young talent goes to die!

Vasquez is really really bad at defense. I just don't see Dolan trading Felton- Felton showed loyalty by returning even after being traded (even got invited to Dolans BBQ!). As we all know loyalty is the most important thing to Dolan, so Felton is untouchable.

Yea, Patterson makes sense since it would be 1-1 and Shumpert is by far the better player, but Patterson's undersized for a PF and not a good rebounder. I'd be very confused and angry if that's all we get for 21 Shump St.

And on Vasquez's D, that's a push because it won't be any worse than Felton's for the majority of the game, with edge for Felton in the last 5 minutes of the game, and the addition of Thompson adds a defensive presence we are missing down low. At the end of the day though, I see no upside for Thompson over Jeremy Tyler, so I think we hold out and add him to the roster as soon as he's ready to go.

They're probably looking to get rid of Jimmer too.

I wouldn't be down on that, he's from Glens Falls, NY originally. But we better get a draft pick if we do that. Not sure what other play gets rolled in though. Shump for Fredette is an atrocity.

I'm from South Glens Falls, lol. I'd love to see it happen.

so here we go again, selling short... why not at least try to raise his value, evaluate what we really have? I hate the way this franchise operates

I completely agree. The worst part about this is that they are somehow going to find a way to get hosed when they deal him and ignite this already smoldering fan base.

I'm not 100% on the CBA, but that 1.5 could be more like 4 mil if luxury tax is included in incoming salary additions. Do I think Dolan is against it? No. Do I think an intelligent benefits both sides trade is going to happen if Shump is dealt? No. I just don't see it.
