We all know things have not been pretty so far, but the season is still young. There are a few things to put in perspective here:
1) Lots of other teams are laying mediocre ball including: The Heat, Nets, Atlanta, Charlotte, Chicago, etc. the list is long
2) Do we really think the Knicks are a worse team than the Hawks, Charlotte, Celtics, and Toronto? Not to mention the likes of Orlando, Cleveland, Detroit, Milwaukee, and Washington?
3) I guarantee you by the end of the season that the Knicks are nowhere near the bottom of the atlantic

We may not going to win the atlantic (although that is not a given) but we could be anywhere from a #5-#8 seed by the time the season ends. Sure, we may not get out of the second round again but are we really going to beat the Heat? Indiana? Our team as currently constructed will not beat those teams and even if we do - facing a team lime the Spurs in the finals would be a disaster.

We are a much better team than what we have seen so far and I expect things will smooth out over the next month or two. What we need as fans is realistic expectations. This team isnt winning a championship, our ownership sucks, we will not have any draft picks, and our coach needs an offensive playbook.

It is what it is, the sky is not falling, this is the Knicks.

If they trade Shump for garbage I might throw in the towel though.

Problem is we tanked for 2+ years only to get tangled up yet again because of the owners doing AGAIN. This time there's no light at the end of the tunnel. Maybe after 2025 we can compete. Maybe Dolan won't be around then

It's been an odd start to the season- seems in the East only the pacers are playing great, the bad teams are playing better than expected and the good teams are playing worse.

So, best case scenario we're basically like the Hawks teams of the last decade?

I agree with most of your comments. I don't think we tanked. But our huge free agent plan was screwed up by having only a plan A...lebron. Plan B, C, or D didn't exist. So management felt the fan and media pressure to give an injury prone player 100mil. We have all money and no brains. The knicks are like that rich blonde born in their families wealth..Until Dolan hires more brains and less yes men, we will ALWAYS be stuck in meritocracy. Trying to make the playoffs...trading 1st round picks and buying second round picks. This should be a book...The life of a knick fan..

Still, better than being the Knicks teams of the last decade!
