Gotta believe the League told Cleveland to pick another international player(Canadian) high in draft, to keep international flavor intact.

WHO SAID HE WAS HEALTHY ???

CLEVELAND (AP) -- Cavaliers rookie forward Anthony Bennett, the top pick in this year's NBA draft, has asthma and sleep apnea.

Cleveland coach Mike Brown revealed Bennett's conditions Thursday night before the Cavs hosted the Detroit Pistons in an exhibition game. Bennett's asthma was not widely known and obviously did not prevent the Cavs from taking the former UNLV star in June's draft.

Bennett has had some breathing issues during workouts and in preseason games, and him being sometimes winded had been attributed to him not being able to work out as much this summer after undergoing shoulder surgery in May. But Brown said Bennett also deals with asthma and wears a mask at night for his sleep apnea.

''It's a culmination of a lot of things,'' Brown said. ''The shoulder, he's been out for a while, he's got asthma. We're throwing a lot at him. He's probably never played this hard against this competition in his life. He's got sleep apnea and some other things. He likes to stay up late.''

The 6-foot-8, 259-pound Bennett averaged 10 points and 6.3 rebounds in his first three NBA preseason games. He's coming off the bench for Brown, and made his first shot - a 3-pointer - against the Pistons and followed that up with a breakaway dunk.

Brown said Bennett's breathing issues are noticeable.

''It's been tiring to watch him because every time I watch him he's (gasping),'' Brown said. ''It makes me tired, so I try not to look at him. I tell him, 'If you need a sub, just tell me. Otherwise I'm not going to look at you.'''

Can't believe they invested in a #1 pick with asthma and sleep apnea with a shoulder condition at the forward position where it seems they're good with Tristan Thompson.

Stupid pick.

Since when is snoring loudly an injury or health concern for an nba player?! And asthma isn't exactly a disability- never held back Ariza.

Yeah, he will. Part of the problem is the team has depth at his position. But if that was the case, they should've just drafted Dipo. Dipo is more prepared to contribute than Bennett and it's not a slam dunk that Bennett will have a better career.

THATS WHY I SAID CLEVELAND WAS DRAFTING HIGH INTERNATIONAL FOR THE SAKE OF THE LEAGUE.

The safe pick in this last draft was Victor Olapido. he might not be a franchise player--he might not be as good as a couple of other players--or maybe he is. But when you mark with that kind of athleticism you mark with the size strength and agility with ballhndling shooting a high% at a big time school the defense the improved outside shot--he was the right pick at 1. It was a tough draft no doubt about it.

I haven't watched the cavs much but I did get to see Bennett play really well in one preseason game but the guy was really winded. Not sure if that was asthma or related to his conditioning. The announcers mentioned he was still building himself back up from an injury?

He'll be alright. Had some thunder dunk the other night.

They are expecting Lebron to come back there, no need for two small guards if he decides to come home.
