CHICAGO -- Bulls star Derrick Rose says he will play Thursday night against the New York Knicks despite missing the morning shootaround with a sore neck.

Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau called Rose a game-time decision for the club's home opener. However, Rose is confident he will be able to loosen up and play in his second game back since missing all of last season while recovering from a torn ACL in his left knee.

"Hell yeah," Rose said when asked if he would face the Knicks. "For sure I know I"m going to play. But it's just that I've got to get loose."

Rose isn't sure when the injury occurred but thinks it must have happened at some point in Tuesday night's season-opening 107-95 loss to the Miami Heat. The 2011 MVP did say his surgically repaired knee is fine.

"I don't know what play did it or whatever but my body's just got to get used to playing," said Rose, who finished with 12 points and four assists against the Heat in his first game since April 2012.

Rose said he has been getting treatment throughout the past two days and is confident he won't have to miss his long awaited home opener at the United Center.

"I've been getting treatment the last couple of days, even this morning," Rose said. "It's just getting my blood going, then getting into the arena and seeing how much attention there is for tonight."

Rose admitted that it's tough to deal with another injury as he makes his way back from the knee injury that has been given so much attention.

"For sure, it's definitely frustrating," he said. "But can't get mad about it; can't get sad about it. I know I'm doing all the things to get back on the court as quick as possible and working my butt off."

Rose dealt with a similar injury three years ago when he missed a game on Nov. 26, 2010 because of a sore neck.

"It's just like a crick in your neck," he said. "Every day it gets better but I know when I get going and get to playing and warming up it should be gone."

If Rose does play, he is confident he will be able to improve upon the 4-for-15 shooting night that he endured in Miami on Tuesday night.

"I think my shots were on," Rose said. "It's just that I missed shots. For me, I know that I've had worse shooting nights than that in my career and I know I might have a game where my confidence is totally high and it's going to be scary."

Yeah, yeah, watch him play and have a monster game.

So much for the BS that he went on holiday for a year to 'get his body right' and it was the right thing to do. He's a beast, but he's always going to have injury issues- shirking his responsibilities for a full season wasn't going to change that.

its not Rose I'm worried about...

its that pasty punk Mike Dunleavy that concerns me

he ALWAYS kills the Knicks. Watch him go off for like 20-25 points then play like dog crap the rest of the year, or at least until he plays against NY again

I think it happens to us because we tend to over double team. This always leaves us rotating late or a completely open shot to another player. Last year when we double teamed Bismack Beyombo in the post during the game vs the Bobcats I knew we would always get beat by scrubs.

Also these scrubs seem to feel confident playing against us, no doubt because they have seen their scrub brethren light us up the night before- heck remember when that Kings scrub hurried his first 3pt of the season to win the game against us last year? I just wish we were more defensively intimidating so players actually dreaded playing against us.
