Smith is expected to spend much of the season getting playing time in the D-League. When Tyler is healthy enough to return, the Knicks could choose to cut Aldrich or Chris Smith, whose $470,000 contract becomes guaranteed on opening night. When Smith hired his brother’s agent, CAA’s Leon Rose, in the spring, The Post reported the brothers’ free agency was seen in some league circles as a “package deal.”

This is far worse and erodes any notion of "best five play"

Chris Smith did nothing in public view to make anyone think he was worthy of a roster spot.

Zero

This kind of makes anyone who supports the Knicks financially--meaning anyone--especially the fans who buys tickets as a slap in the face to their support. MSG is a 4-5B dollar organization--who are they bowing down too?

CAA

Which essentially is bowing down to Melo. Didn't CAA come with Melo?

CAA is a lot bigger than Melo. I would imagine Dolan's other holdings depends heavily on entertainers and a lot of them are represented by CAA.

Rumor is they are only keeping him until the 29th in order to give him his guaranteed money. When that happens, they'll cut him and sign Jeremy Tyler.

It's called politics....Happens all the time.....In every organization! In my business, they call it the "Good ole Boys" network. And simply let the talent just walk away to a competitor.

I'd have no problem if this were Patrick Ewing Jr. His dad was arguably the greatest Knick of all time and Junior was able of contributing something on an NBA court. But Chris Smith?!?!?!? I don't care about a CAA connection, this just looks bad. All that needs to happen now is a report of JR with a Knicks intern in the back of the military truck and this franchise will have come full circle.

Remember when I told you this scrub would make it and I was laughed at?

Never underestimate Dolan. He's BFF's with JR. This is a favor to him.

CAA doesn't give a **** about Chris Smith. Give me a break. This is all Dolan and nobody else.

nixluva wrote:Really hate to see this but we all could see it comin. I'm sure Woody doesn't like it, cuz he could've made it seem less obvious by playing the kid if he was fully on board with it. He kind of made it clear he wasn't playing the kid cuz he didn't deserve it. This is all above his head.

In the end they'll cut him if Tyler is able to come back healthy. I can't see how they just let him go if he can come back healthy, but remember he's a LONG way away from being able to play so this deal for Smith isn't as bad as it seems right now. They weren't going to keep Aldrich and Diogu. I think Diogu should get picked up by someone given his strong play. Smith is just holding a spot and getting paid while they wait on Tyler.

Hope you're right, Nix. It's actually a very clever way to keep a roster spot "open" while still satisfying the contract reqs for CS.

To be honest I really want the league to put the hammer down for this one and punish management. This kind if thing is just really not acceptable and just goes to show how twisted the head of this team is. I really think Dolan should receive a heavy fine for this, just as long as the punishment doesn't directly hurt the team I'm all for however stern wants to bitchslap Dolan.

It's hard to prove tho.

Right...unless the Knicks had a signed agreement to say they would keep Chris if JR signed with them, which I highly doubt. Suspicious and shady but not breaking the rules.

How about breaking the last shreds of respectability still associated with this franchise? What a effing joke.
