About the only thing the Lakers achieved in seven seconds or less last season was making their coach regret saying his team should "easily" average 110-115 points per game when he took the job.

"Yeah, well, I was on drugs back then," Mike D'Antoni said Monday with a chuckle, referring to the pain medication he was taking while recovering from knee surgery. "My knee was hurting. Vicodin was killing me."

Funny, this is the same mindset that he took the job under.

So basically if you asked him why he took the job with the lakers he might have said the same thing.

The only drug MDA was tripping on was his ego.

People need to give the guy a break. I think he's a good guy and gives it his best effort. It's not like he came in and pulled a Larry Brown. He just has his way of doing things and any GM that gets him needs to recognize his limitations and be willing to work with him rather than against him. That was a tough situation for any coach to try and come into much less a system guy like MDA. In the end he did get into the playoffs. Any coach other than Phil that came in with Kobe and Howard in particular was going to have a tough time trying to get those guys to buy in 100%.

MDA is Euro-school coach.
He assumes players are pros and do not require ego-maintenance and are mature man not overgrown teens.
Welcome to America Mike!!!
I think he was on drugs when he decided to coach in NBA.

Its an old arguement about MDA, but it was great line.

Dude makes millions from knicks and Lakes to starphuch. Can't blame him.

he didn't ask for either one of those jobs..and who would turn down a job to coach the knicks or lakers

It's like tuning down a job to work for facebook, google or yahoo

Mike Danphoney is a pretty slick customer, he takes all the abuse, but is laughing all the way to the bank while nobody is watching. More than what he can make in Europe, what a racket ! Mike Danphoney !
JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

I think MDA is a perfect coach for a young team that you want to squeeze a lot out of. With the Knicks when we had a bunch of good young kids it wasn't that bad. They needed that PG MDA needed to make it all work and only gave him half a season with Felton and Lin off the scrap heap. It's different when you go out with a plan from GM and Coach to build a team with a certain philosophy and continuity to develop a team. In NY they didn't do that. I'm not sure what they're gonna do in LA. They seem to have a bunch of role players that will fit what he wants to do. I'm curious to see how it works. It's not a great team so expectations won't be high. Non of that title talk to add pressure to the situation.

We have much more continuity now in NY and I think it's going to pay some dividends. All that turnover when MDA was here is no way to build a winning team. Woody has some aspects of the game he can turn to that have been tested over the last year plus.

I actually think MDA will overachiev with that laker team before kobe returns. With ball movement& spacing hell make wes johnson, xavier henry, meeks & shawne extra e look like decent players. Gasol & nash can facilitate with passing

Of course once kobe comes back itll return to iso ball (yawl act like melo is the only player who likes isoball). This will kill any moment um they wouldve gained without him

will they be a better orcwrse team with kobe isoball...idont think so. Itll just be different. The role players will suffer

Knicks should be improved: win about 40 games and maybe sneak into the playoffs. Melo, Rose and even Noah will have some nice moments however this team should be about PORZINGUS. the sooner they make him the primary player, the better
