-melo played the 3...how was is perimeter defense on rudy gay?
-lastly, are we still a 3pt shooting offense?

DVRed the game and caught the replay:
- Powell looked OK again. He's giving effort -- a few nice blocks the first couple of games. Looks like he's got some soft touch too.. I don't think he's more skilled than Diogu though (and a healthy Tyler) but surprisingly, he's the big Woody's been going to early and for more PT overall between he and Ike. It's only two games, I get that, but a weird pattern so far: Woody finally gets around to emptying the bench late in the 4th after not using these guys at all beforehand. It's odd -- guys like Diogu, Leslie, Murry last night etc. are inserted ice cold in a tight game after not playing at all the prior 3 quarters. Not sure what's up with that -- Woody's obviously trying to thrust them into a tight game (or a game with a 10 pt lead with a few mins to go in game 1) to see how they handle it but it's an odd way of evaluating guys I feel. I'd want him to play all these guys up for the final 3 spots for longer stretches. Let them come in much earlier and get warm, get comfortable. It'd be nice to see these certain guys for long stretches before any decisions are made on them. I dunno. Just feels strange. I don't need to see much more of Powell -- let's see more Diogu and contemplate if he's worth taking over an injured Jeremy Tyler or not.
- Woody finally went to Murry more than halfway through the 4th quarter after not playing the kid a lick so far -- I thought he looked real good. He just looks like he belongs. He handles it real well, he's poised, played his signature ball-hawk D (had at least 1 steal and drew a nice charge late), hit on a real sweet reverse layup and was willing to pull the trigger from deep in a tight game. He had a play where he tried to shake Austin Daye out on the perimeter and had his 3-pt attempt blocked by Daye -- but he handled it well. Didn't appear to rattle him at all. Nice young player. Breeny said it well -- he's just a good overall basketball player. Still like CDR more but the way Beno's looked up to this point (very shaky so far), Murry may make a tad more sense now. I'd still take CDR over Murry though myself. Wish there was room for both because I really like Murry a lot. I agree that they probably already know what CDR can do but I still wanna see him out there operating in our system, with our players. Woody should want to see that as well. Hopefully we see him tonight.
- Aldrich played again early. Looked merely OK. Looked good on the glass but again just like game 1--he looked a step slow guarding the interior on a few plays. The Aldrich I remember in college was a STANDOUT shot-blocker...much more active defensively. Haven't seen that yet outta him. Might be nerves, I dunno -- I'd like for him to go out there and let it all hang out -- challenge everything and don't be afraid to commit fouls. Play like an animal defensively! He's definitely capable of much more -- I want him to start showing it. Going through the motions out there a little bit.
- Udrih's been one of the biggest surprises so far and not in a good way. He's looked really shaky/sloppy with the ball and not comfortable out there at all. Guess he's just trying to get used to a new team, new personnel, etc. but you figure it'd be a much easier transition for him than it has, being a vet and all. Prigioni looks much more comfortable (and effective) by comparison. Just gotta get more comfortable..
- Melo looked great. Started off a little slow shooting the ball (the whole team did), then really turned it on and started killing it. I'd actually like to see a little less Melo and more CDR and even Leslie. Would've liked to have seen CDR go up against Rudy Gay for a stretch. Again, CDR's gotta finally play tonight in the 2nd of a back to back. If he doesn't then something's rotten in Denmark.
- Yeah, definitely still a 3-pt shooting team. Guys still have the steady green light to fire away. Really benefits THJ's game and plays to his main strength. That kid's money with his feet set. WOW. Picture perfect form, release and ball rotation. We all knew he could shoot but I didn't realize he was that good a shooter. Finishes well on the break too. Not a big creator off the dribble though, not the best handle and he's not great defensively -- these are the weaknesses and they're evident. The book on him was spot on -- he's basically everything we thought we'd be getting, even a better spot-up shooter probably. Wasn't sure if he'd be able to help us this early but I was wrong. He's definitely part of this rotation early on.
