Free agent Gary Forbes will work out for the Lakers Tuesday.Forbes, who played in China last season, is also expected to work out for the Knicks next week. Both teams are just looking to fill out their rosters at this point. Forbes could be a bit of an insurance policy should Kobe Bryant (Achilles) miss time. Aug 13 - 12:34 PM

In my opinion, would much rather have James Johnson than Forbes, and I would just cut CJ Leslie because I don't see him contributing this year and he will take at least 1-2 years before he can be in NBA shape/size as a development project, and for the last pick, it likely should go to a Center like Haddadi, although I would like to somehow add a a development PG to absorb Pablo/Udrih's experience and be their mentors, like a combo guard with already good DEFENSIVE abilities/size like Tourre Murry and Darrius Morris that are not FULLY projects that have some experience already

Problem is we don't have much roster spots unless we can trade players that would give us extra spots and upgrade our positions, not trading just for the sake of having more roster spots

With CJ Leslie on the roster and Jeremy Tyler, they are both development projects but Leslie has just too much work to do before he can add the weight necessary to be in NBA rotation, while Tyler would likely just need about half a year of hard work on and off the court before he can be part of the rotation due to injuries

We have only 1 roster spot if we decide to keep both projects, while I would look to cut CJ Leslie and add 2 roster spots instead one just one with the positoins

LEGIT Center or rugged PF/C

PG/SG

SF/PF

I don't wish injury on anybody but with STAT's health/injury history,
I wonder if there is a chance that STAT gets a season ending/career ending surgery that would give us 1 extra roster spot and possibly even a injury exemption to use

Well if they had Amare do normal work in training camp I think there is a good chance that he does get a season ending injury, They seem committed to having him do less work, water work, not playing back to backs etc, so he may make it through at least part of the season.
I am not sure what to think of Leslie. He seemed like a great pickup right after the draft but seeing him in the summer leagues and knowing that the Knicks used all 15 guys minus Camby last year makes his developmental spot on the 15 man roster one that could cost the Knicks. If he was a second rounder he would probably be encouraged to sign in Europe.

I think you're thinking of Gary Neal of the Spurs.

Gary Forbes is a 6'7 Small forward from UMass that had stints in Toronto, Denver, and Houston.

I don't think I'd take Leslie or Tyler. With 3 spots remaining now -

• Earl Barron - legit 7' C size, rebounding equalizer, experience, proven to produce when called upon. I think he's got more to offer than Jeremy Tyler at this point.

• Luke Babbitt - SF with much better skills, body and ceiling than CJ Leslie. There's a lot to like about Leslie but I agree - he's a project that needs work and doesn't fit here on a win-now team. Woody will never play this guy. Babbitt hasn't gotten off to a great start in the NBA so far but there's a night & day difference skill-wise between he & CJ Leslie. LB was great at Nevada -- excellent scorer/passer/40+% 3-pt shooter. I mean this kid reminds me of Chris Mullin! I doubt we could ever get Babbitt for the minimum but you never know, man. We got Beno Udrih for the vet minimum, right? Reach out to him and offer a 2-year deal and guaranteed rotation time behind Melo. Show the love - maybe we get lucky and score a VERY GOOD young player we can move forward with. I can't even believe this kid's still available to be honest. If it's even possible, cutting Leslie and filling his spot with Luke Babbitt is a significant upgrade that's worth pursuing. No brainer. A straight up COUP if we could ever get this kid.

• Either another PF (DJ White/Ivan Johnson) or Toure Murry. I'd lean toward Murry. I know there's 3 PGs but PP and Beno have some miles on them now and Felton was hurt last year. If one of these PGs got hurt we'd really get thin at that position quick. If a rotation PF went down, there seems to be more depth in place there at the moment. I dunno - Murry's intriguing. Solid defender, scorer, can handle some point, can play the 1 & 2 at 6'5". Murry might make more sense for the last spot.

I've been pretty outspoken about not sweating second round picks for Bargs/Camby etc. but in this scenario it would be really nice if Leslie was a second rounder that the knicks could send to Europe to get seasoned while giving a vet his spot this year.

I think we're good in terms of wings. The last roster spot should go for some size. I'd like to get another defender at pg, but that make no sense now that we have RayRay, Prigs and Beno. I have no problem signing Haddadi, Petro or the Chester from Lithuania at this point.

Always... always remember: Less is less. More is more. More is better and twice as much is good too. Not enough is bad, and too much is never enough except when it's just about right. - The Tick
