Ok, all you PC and Android users out there: be warned. The Wall Street Journal just broke the story of FBI agents using malware on smartphones and PCs to listen to individuals suspected of wrong doing.

Basically, the FBI is hacking people's devices so that they can turn the mic on and listen in on conversations. This is traditionally the sort of stuff reserved for conspiracy theorist websites, folks. And to be fair, the FBI does need to obtain a warrant and there doesn't seem to yet be any evidence of their using these seriously shady tactics against anyone who could remotely be a decent person but.......

To your defense, the average person is pretty freaking naive about social media and privacy. Letting the phone broadcast ones where about is not a good idea. I am amazed that people broadcast when they are on vacation which is an open invitation for something not so good to happen. If you gonna post pictures of travel, do it AFTER the fact!

Maybe you have a "big brother" or "New World Order" angle on it but the way I look at it if your a person of interest there are lots of ways FBI is going to listen. Using someones smart phone is ecnomical and easier than planting bugs. As a taxpayer, I'd prefer they use the smartphone.

He responded "No," but added, "There are cases where they could inadvertently perhaps collect, but not wittingly."

When that statement was later revealed to be false, he told NBC News that "I responded in what I thought was the most truthful, or least untruthful, manner."

Shhhhh...Hofstra is a known center for developing the newest in police state monitoring software... "Hofstra" is actually Sanskrit for "He who listens illegally controls all the train and bus schedules". I saw a video blog on it on NPR's website yesterday.
