From Twitter: Greg Oden, the former No. 1 overall pick who hasn’t played in an NBA game since 2009, will sign a contract to play for the Miami Heat 2 YR DEAL, the center told Grantland.com.

The deal is for a minimum of two years with a player option in the second year, sources told ESPN’s Marc Stein and Jeff Goodman.

Miami had been considered the favorite to land Oden. Heat president Pat Riley has been personally recruiting Oden since before the end of the 2012-13 regular season. And, of course, Miami is coming off winning an NBA title with a lineup that includes LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, among others.

JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

Alex Kennedy mentioned in a tweet that Oden has struggled with alcohol and depression. I hadn't heard anything about issues with alcohol for him.

which would explain his injuries.

alcohol abuse weakens the body's ability to repair and stay healthy in general,

the bright side is that, if the alcohol is truly behind him, he should make a strong recovery and drop all-star buckets, this would not be unreasonable,

but if he is just an injured guy, drunk or not, then miami still doesn't lose anything on the signing,

win win

I love how writers are saying this is a low risk, high reward move, and a "coup" for the heat, and how "Riley gets his man again", "good signing". I wonder what their reaction would have been if we signed him!

He's had three microfracture surgeries on his knees, an injured knee cap, a broken knee cap, arthroscopic surgery on both knees, he has one leg shorter than the other and he hasn't played in 3 years. His comeback will probably be as effective as Jonathon Bender's.

It's a shame Oden's career never really got going- for years before he got drafted, people were hyping his draft as the 'Oden draft'- people on these boards even wanted us to tank to get a shot at drafting him. Shows what a crap shoot the draft is. I do miss the days of dominant centers- we really got spoiled with the era of Hakeem, Ewing, David Robinson, Shaq, etc.

Let them have Oden. Give us Haddadi and then we'll party.

Oden had the same problem that Hibbert had originally, which was not knowing how to run. They had horrible gate that isn't sustainable, but Hibbert was taught how to run. They actually had to teach him how to lift his knees and put more of a circular motion to his gate. I used to watch Oden in college and think to myself that he was just pounding his knees the way he was running. Not every big guy is naturally coordinated and light on his feet. Some guys run like Gazelles and others like Rhinos. I hope he can resume his career, but not too good, so he doesn't help them win another title at our expense.

Yeah, I heard half of Oden's salary gets added to Lebron's for past due child support payments.

I wonder how many players/GMs/fans in the league would love to box Isola in a ring because of the way he writes/talks

Miami still has their MINI MLE *not sure if they used a part of it for Chris Anderson*, with their tax's they probably won't look to use it, unless they find a a steal that they cannot resist on the waivers or to use part it to sign 2nd round picks like Ennis/Justin Hamilton or foreign players to longer deals that have TEAM OPTIONS on
That shot blocking/BIG that The ROcket's just signed looks like a complete steal to me

Please excuse the heavy dose of Haterade that I drank this morning but:

Oden is a bust.

How long has he been in the league? What exactly has he done? Oh yeah - he has been injured most of the time and sat out for substance abuse issues. I wish him the best but he is not going to come back and suddenly start dropping all star numbers. Sure big men take time to develop but its not like he has a lot of playing time and experience under his belt.

I see why they signed him because there is supposed upside and if he is a bust he doesn't really hurt, but guys like Oden don't belong in the NBA. Perhaps if he proved himself in the D-league or something I could see it but not with his current track record.

I was looking forward to rooting for his comeback. Bitter or not, I'll now be rooting for his failure.

He'a bust because of his injury history not because he doesn't have the talent. In his, very short, career 9pts, 7reb, and 1.4 blocks while shooting 57% from the field playing only 22 mpg. For a team that isn't paying him much and has gone to the Finals 3 years in a row winning twice without him he's a great risk.

Now the joy of my world is in Zion How beautiful if nothing more Than to wait at Zion's door I've never been in love like this before Now let me pray to keep you from The perils that will surely come

So you spend the money just cause you have it to spend? I will go on record stating Eddy Curry would have a better Heat career than OLDen!

i personally guarantee oden will get more minutes in miami than fat curry, and he will drop some highlight buckets,

whether he will stick around, we don't know, and he's got at least one slam dunk in him
