Do they do this? Like a real squat, do they deep squat with barbells??

What do they squat, if they do?

I'm not talk about 1/4 squats, Smith Machine "squats", or any other fugazi ****,

I'm asking you if you think they do REAL squats?

I saw in the Gatorade commercial they had Kevin Durantula bench pressing, but he had this goofy grip, it looked like no one ever taught him how to bench properly, it's pretty pathetic for a pro baller, NO ONE WOULD BENCH WITH THAT GRIP, THAT'S SO ABSURD OMG

Yea hell yea
Nah they don't need to

I'd imagine they all workout with individualized routines... Next thread, please.

I'm sure they do, because that's the right way to do that exercise. But Kevin Durant doesn't bench nor squat - so maybe he doesn't know how!

after this durant bench grip, i have serious doubts about the strength training routines of nba players, if the routines exist at all:

wow and he has a ridiculous routine,

guy is limiting his accomplishments in the nba by doing that fugazi 'standing on pad' stuff,

terrible exercise for wear and tear. Cant think of an exercise that puts more uneeded pressure on your knees, ankles, hips and lower back than weighted squats.

Do NBA players clean and jerk? Do they throw the shot put? Can they synchronize swim? How many ringers can an NBA player throw in a row?
IWG, have you gotten a CAT scan of your skull lately? Everything clear?

Let us know when Mr. Durant gets back to you on his jumpshot form and why he doesn't slap the backboard on every dunk and layup like you do.

Every once in a while he has to demonstrate his eastern european superiority and his mental discipline. He is smarter, stronger and gastronomically advanced. Its a more detailed respectful way of saying that he is angry and will make great strides over the bloated american who does not appreciate the things we have.

Today he is saying his lifting technique is better than Durants. It make him feel better.

It's funny to me. Basketball players always brag about they gained 50 pounds of muscle in 2 months and some posters eat it up...but a poster comes on a questions their workout practices and its ban worthy.

Tyson chandler is supposed to have a workout video coming to knicksnow.com so I can't wait to laugh at it. In the little teaser vid they posted, he was lifting similiar or lighter weight than I use.

I'm sure they do mostly basketball related stuff and cardio. Circuit training stuff. No real weight training. Still if guys are adding 100lbs of muscle then they have to be pumping iron. Maybe the squats and overtraining amare is used to killed his knees.

anyone ever compared the nba and nfl combine numbers? I see so many nfl players vertical out due nba players running vert. That just seems strange to me.

it's not strange at all,

guys in the nfl can all squat heavy weight,

that's all air and speed, the muscles the squat develops are the most powerful movers in the body,

everything comes from the middle of the man, what the trendy folks call the 'core', i call it the Center.

On the Greatest Lie Ever Told:

i'm so sick of hearing 'oh if you lift heavy, gain weight, you will be slow and lose explosiveness/quickness',

anyone that says that deserves a punch in the face at least or i would even advise Obama to put you in jail forever, in Alaska,

because it's not true

IT WOULD BE TRUE IF YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT DEAD WEIGHT, LIKE YOU ARE ADDING DEAD WEIGHT AND NOW YOU ARE HEAVIER, LIKE FAT, YEA THEN YOU ARE SLOWER,

BUT WHEN YOUR WEIGHT GAIN COMES FROM MUSCLE, THERE IS A CORRESPONDING INCREASE IN POWER!!!!!

i think that's pretty much all true,

though it leaves out the possibility that i am offering genuine opportunity to discuss the barbell squat and how it applies to pro ballers, which i think is interesting and without evil motive,

deep barbell squats and deadlifts and bench and overhead presses, these are things that would be the norm in healthy days, but this is like, barbell squats are met with hate, as if it is you to be stupid to barbell squat

Nobody can gain 50 lbs. of muscle in 2 months without steroids.

Squatting parallel or below is actually good for your knees and isn't bad for your back if you're doing it correctly.

I'm sure they do. Everyone should build strength with the basic barbell lifts, even if it isn't your goal to squat 1,000 lbs or get big. You can still be lean and lift heavy. Size comes from eating more.

Of course strength training is only a small part of the regiment for a pro baller. Still have to train speed/conditioning and the technical part of the work in basketball. That's what makes it a full-time job.

Some of the best dunks ive seen on the basketball court were from football players. And it doesnt matter the size.....i seen a little guy dunk over somebody on a fast break.....he was a defensive back. I played ball with Mo Richardson whos a linemen on the Jets.....hes over 300 pounds. Sick jumper.....decent crossover.....and hes above the rim.

Football players work on their legs more than basketball players...in my opinion. I remember when i started doing squats.....i would play ball after and i felt very springy.....jumpers were more consistent and i was able to attack better. More explosive. Squats is a mandatory exercize for football players.....which is why their verts are usually higher.

Interesting I saw a video of 2 NBA player squatting with a well known trainer in strength training cirles, who also now trains a lot of fashion models/actors like Kate Upton

Taj Gibson front squats, assuming those plates are 45lbs, that is very strong, but I suspect they are not. Green bumper plates are more like 10kg, 22lbs

You can see videos of his other clients like Kate etc here... Kate Upton is really trim these days :)
there is also a video of Roy Hibbert doing split squats with a 100lb dumbbell
