@Al_Iannazzone: Onetime Knick Rasheed Wallace has been hired as a Pistons assistant coach. He signed a two-year deal to join Maurice Cheeks’ staff and will mainly work with the Pistons’ young bigs -- Greg Monroe, Andre Drummond and second-round pick Tony Mitchell.

Assistant coaches can go well beyond the x's and o's portion of the game. I think they like the idea of him working with Detroit bigs (Andre Drummond-Greg Monroe) and helping them to develop some semblance of an offensive post game.

He took a young Jermaine O’Neal and Zach Randolph in Portland from being raw talents to being All-Stars thanks to his tutelage, as well as being a mentor to Jason Maxiell, who’s now a free agent.

Wow you would think he could have helped the knicks, but after the j. Kidd issue they probably said naw.

JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

Saw Rasheed on TV at SL wearing a Pistons shirt today, looks like he is already on the job.

Yeah. I thought this was already announced awhile back. Maybe it was just a rumor.

Coach Mike Woodson offered the 38-year-old a spot as an assistant coach on a Knicks team that hopes to be a contender in the Eastern Conference.

But the big man turned it down.

Instead, Wallace is heading to Detroit to help out with a rebuilding project. Wallace has agreed to join the Pistons as an assistant coach, returning to the team he helped win the 2004 NBA title.

"That opportunity was open and it was available to me," Wallace said of the Knicks' gig. "But this job came up. And to me, I think what signed, sealed and delivered it and made it even more sweet is that my kids are still in Detroit."

Entertaining player. I wish he would've stayed here to coach, but can't fault him for wanting to be near the kids. Good luck to the guy.
