+10000000000000. Then + another 10000000000000000.
The Clippers gave Collison a 2-yr deal (player option in the 2nd year) where next year's salary = $1.9m. Now Smackeddog may be right -- maybe Collison didn't want to play for NY. Maybe he does want to go team up with CP3 again, go to LA--a very desirable location... Who knows...All I know is I talked about Collison a good 10-15 times on this board as soon as Dallas cut him loose.. He was my 2nd choice for PG/co-PG with Felton, right behind Bledsoe. It doesn't even look like we were even interested in this guy, or any of these decent PG that are available for that matter.
All I wanted to read at one point the last week or so was "Knicks interested in Darren Collision, preparing an offer." Never heard that - not a peep - which implies they just felt Prigioni was the better option and they're covered now when they brought PP back. I couldn't disagree with that more. With respect to PP, he's 3rd PG on a team material. Quality 3rd PG material, but 3rd PG material nonetheless...This guy is not what we need taking over for Felton indefinitely in an emergency. Case closed...I don't think he can handle that. We need more at this position!!! Now to hear Collison signed a deal right in our price range (knowing full well he was available SEVERAL DAYS BEFORE they signed PP) makes this all the more irritating. This dude was exactly what we needed -- a young, talented uptempo PG to pair with Felton. A guy fully capable of taking the reins over from Felton if need be and running the team. He might have been better than Felton in the long run anyway..
I agree with Nard here 100% -- WTF are they doing?? Could've gotten a good PG in this draft and passed...Could've gotten involved in this trade for Eric Bledsoe and passed...Now could've gotten arguably the best PG in FA in our price range (turns out Collison was affordable after all) and passed again. All I want to hear is that we have interest in the right players. That's all. Even if any of our overtures get rejected -- THAT'S OK -- just show us you're interested in the right players dammit! Also, I hope they didn't pass this up because they're waiting on Elton Brand...You don't pass up Darren Collison, with our need for a 2nd quick/talented PG, because you're waiting on Elton Brand to make a decision. Case closed on that. That's ludicrous...There's plenty of backup big men out there we can get to play 15-20 mins a night. I'd prefer to see them target a young big or 2 here anyway... I really have to question Glen's priorities a little -- doesn't even look like he's interested in any of these PGs out there. It appears they're not and that makes this lost opportunity all the more frustrating.
Earth to Glen Grunwald -- Felton and Pablo Prigioni IS NOT NEARLY ENOUGH!! Arguably the most important position on the floor -- WE NEED MORE HERE. WAKE THE F UP!!!!
