A normal part of there business strategy. Knicks will never do conventional rebuilding, its not going to happen. Rebuilding for the Knicks is spending money on free agents. So if that's the norm then they need to be smart and creative about it. Right now 2015 is our reset button. Say for example they land Love or Aldridge in free agency for a 5 yr deal. The yr that free agent comes off the books needs to be the rest yr and every contract or trade worked out after that all needs to fall within that yr.

This will constantly give us chances to pair stud players together and rebuild the only way Knicks do.

Also since we hate draft picks so much we should see(once we start to get our picks again) if we could move one or two of them them for future picks yrs down the road. See if we can strike gold and land a teams high lottery pick 4 yrs later. Id try to stash at least one pick, and keep forwarding it multiple yrs ahead until it lands in the lotto.

about the picks, that won't be a problem

we only have one pick, the 2015 1st rounder up until 2017
possibly next summer's King's 2nd round pick which is top 55 protected (so not impossible with their new acquirings this summer but unlikely

As of now

only

JR

Felton (player option of 4.5m)

Iman (I believe his contract extension his for the summer after but I am seeing he has a QO the same summer, if his paydate is also due, we might look to trade him for value to attract more FA's instead with all SG's we already have on the roster)
Tim Hardway JR
2015 1st round pick
Pablo with team option but partial guaranteed

but

Will Melo opt out this summer and demand an extension instead of waiting to 2015 summer and taking less so form a TEAM of high profiled FA class like Lebron/Wade/Heat did in 2010?

Why does it have to be all or nothing? Why can't we just clear SOME cap space rather than have maximum cap space? The Miami Heat way isn't the only way of rebuilding.

If Melo did do that then the yr that he comes off the books would need to be the next reset yr. I wouldn't want to resign him if he did opt out and would rather work out a sign and trade though. But most likely the Knicks would resign him.

Dolan allowed Walsh to do it once already when we signed Amare.

For the Knicks its the best way. If the previous free agents worked out they would just be resigned. So it wouldn't always be rebuilding, just giving the franchise options and flexibility.

Well in theory it can work - but the focus of the team should be on building a championship roster and not on cap space and flexibility. Now being the Knicks and that we have no plan except acquiring one dimensional players and giving up draft picks this may be a good idea.

The only real blueprint worth following is the Spurs, people keep saying they got lucky with Duncan but Duncan couldn't win a championship by himself. They had a plan and they executed it. I don't even know if our front office can execute a plan even if they were able to put one together. Basically based on our recent past I doubt we can even follow their play book even if it was handed to us.

So, I would sign up for your plan as long as we get to fire the coach as part of the reset.

TKF on Melo ::....he is a punk, a jerk, a self absorbed out of shape, self aggrandizing, unprofessional, volume chucking coach killing playoff loser!!

The bottom line is you just need to invest in the right players. If amare was the old amare then wed be a true contender. i think you can win with a big 3 philosophy if you invest in the right players. When 2015 comes, i dojt mind resigning melo but please get a REAL elite player to play next to him
Knicks should be improved: win about 40 games and maybe sneak into the playoffs. Melo, Rose and even Noah will have some nice moments however this team should be about PORZINGUS. the sooner they make him the primary player, the better
