Bargnani 'thrilled to become a Knick' By MARC BERMAN Last Updated: 10:58 AM, July 2, 2013

Memo from Rome: Andrea Bargnani is happy to be out of Canada.

Bargnani, who is joining the Knicks after becoming the scapegoat for Toronto basketball, tweeted today from Italy: "I am thrilled to become a New York Knick and look forward to becoming a part of their storied franchise.''

Even Bryan Colangelo, who drafted Bargnani No. 1 in 2006, admitted late this season Bargnani could use a change of scenery. Colangelo stepped down as Raptors GM last month while the Knicks and Toronto were hammering out the deal. The trade was completed yesterday but can't become official until July 10th because Quentin Richardson needed to be added to the mix in a sign-and-trade.

The Knicks will lose Steve Novak, Marcus Camby, their 2016 first-round pick and two second-rounders as they attempt to compete for a championship in 2013-14. One of the motivators is the Knicks plan on putting Amar'e Stoudemire on a strict minutes restriction next season to keep him healthy and needed to add another scoring big.

Bargnani added a second tweet, "I just want to thank the Toronto organization and my fans for all of their support over the last 7 years.''

how much effort would you put into your job if you was a Raptor player. The treatment they gave Vince, Bosch and now Bargs....why any free agent would want to go there. Once Bargs is gone, I bet Landy will get the same treatment. Raptors fans have no class.

the fact that you can't even have an unrelated thread without some tool here bringing him up make me think that rational minds are few and far between. Bunch of emotionally weak, angst riddled people. I mean, how many times can you argue the same shyt

I think the fans turn on them after they express interest on wanting to leave..Imagine what the Garden would be like if Melo wanted to be traded...

To me Toronto is just a waste of a NBA franchise. Even when they're good, they're not contender good.

What player wants to play there? Taxes suck, Torontonians only care about Hockey and Baseball, and the nightlife isn't great.

Camby, Stoudemire, Carter, T-Mac, Bosh, Bargnani...no one really wants to play there!

Lets just hope the new scenery makes him want to improve his game..I hope he puts in the work this summer...Much like I hope Shump and Felton work on their floaters and outside shooting...

If you never been there or spent any significant time there you have no idea what it's like. Players love the city and the night life is banging. You kids might have to learn a little different and the tax issue, but NY has bad taxes too.

JAMES DOLAN on Isiah : He's a good friend of mine and of the organization and I will continue to solicit his views. He will always have strong ties to me and the team.

I've been several times, have family there, and even went to clubs there.

Montreal is way better!

Anyways, that HST is a motherphucker! Good thing Canucks have free Healthcare.

Check out the attendance figures for the past season: http://espn.go.com/nba/attendance

Toronto finished 13th out of 30.

SO much for "bad fans". They pay, they boo!

We boo and Dolan gives us Isiah.

They boo because they are disappointed. Bargnani was the overall no. 1 pick. It breeds disappointment.

i've watched 90% of all raptors games since 2006.

he was booed for about 5 games last season...and that was it. the media portrayal of fan booing in the arena is grossly exaggerated.

you must've hung out in the wrong part of toronto b/c it's not called "white vegas" for nothing.

nobody wants to play in about 80% of us cities either. look at okc's track record with FA's...and the spurs too. they were spurned by kidd + jermaine o'neal in their prime - and that's after they won a title there already.

Toronto's awesome. I'm with DJ here.
We haven't exactly attracted top free agents either.

well since we have RARELY had the money to sign free agent, being perennially over the cap, who knows whether we could have attracted them or not. The last really good free agent I remember was Alan Houston.

Haven't been back to T Dot in quite a few years, so maybe it's changed. Been to a few places, remember the Docks when I was a kid, and Guvernment in my 20s, as well as few other bars/clubs. Nothing I've ever experienced better in other cities, which is no offense to T Dot, just not a party central.

Been to some of the strip joints in T Dot, definitely not in the top ten even in Canada! Montreal and Vancouver are better cities for partying and strip clubbing.

But if you want to go to a nice bar, sure T Dot has a couple of those. No offense, it's just not on the same level.
